View Full Version : Concept Art: final image! Muscular Anatomy, may be used for demo reel!
hey all,
well I was a little bored in class today, so like always I drew and finished this image of a character concept I may do in 3d. Its not a WIP since this is basically what the character will look like and I wont be starting anything on my demo reel for another 6 months, but just wanted to throw it up to see what you all thought. I will put the sketch up as well.
P.S. no reference was used, just sketching out of my head, so dont worry if muscles are on muscles etc... :P

Looks like a good start but it looks like you tried to invent your anatomy before the structure was there. Your center line has a big kink in it near the the top of the chest and everything is foreshotened incorrectly. I did a quicky paint over to fix the forshortening and a couple wonky muscle insertions.

Pectoralis inserts lower on the arm, you bicep looks like it got stretched and the whole collar bone, neck, trap area was twisted and stretched! Hope this was helpful and you don't think I'm an ass.
Best advice I can give is find yourself a life drawing class and sketch like mad! Oh and keep posting here, your stuff is interesting!! :)

holy shit!
i cant believe my eyes!
gee looks like a 3d painting!
very nice painting!
hey antics, im going to kill you for destroying my drawing!!! aahhhhh,, hahahah!! just joking, you have many strong points and I liked the paint over of what you were talking about. Oh yeah, dont worry though man! your not being an ass, I actually appreciate C&C very much! much abliged! As far as drawing the human anatomy though, ive been doing it for a long time, Ill post more of my works if you are interested, im actually a comicbook illustrator, many of my works are exagerated as the one here, I sometimes get tired of the human figure and how it should look, so I often wip out my sketch book and draw away, lots of the times not thinking and just doing. As the hulk as you know has emense proportion and muscle definition where they are not suppose to be, but it all depends on the artist also. Guys like Jim Lee, Mark Silverteri, Michael Turner, all unique styles, and ideas of how they perceive the human form, and thats what makes them great!! and thats why I love what I do. I through up a comic illustration I got commissioned to do a while back, this one more of a realistic version, yet there are still small problems, but I got it done in a couple nights, so it wasnt too bad...

heres another one I did for a fella in NY. This is actually a character created by the artist David Finch who draws the Aphrodite IX series. With this character, I decided to stay away from the tall long legged skinny supermodel figure and decided an approach of forshortening her legs and upper body, as well as give her a baby like feel, I thought I achieved it rather well without reference:
NOTE: Do not go by what I say, try to always use some type of reference to make sure positioning is right of the body! It saves a ton of time!! Once the body position is correct, the skies the limits with your creative talents!

Yey!
@TheSEL, you wouldn't happen to have drawn (or been inspired by) Shadowrun (RPG) illustrations by any chance? There was many artists involved but your style is dead on some of them!

If god given talent exists, you have it ! Amazing work.
hey all, sorry for not posting earlier for I have been busy still working on the short. Just wanted to say thankyou in no particular order:
anticz: Thanks for the insight on my short, it really helped a ton, were 5 months into it, and decided to take some different roads in order to get it finished and in great quality.
Bear: Thanks for the statement bear, lets me know im doing something right.
Tagwerk: Also thanks for the reply, means a lot!!
Henrik Hörlin: Hey thanks, as far as Shadowrun is concerned, I never heard about them until you said that and actually did a search for their site, looks very promising and theres a ton of great art there as well. I draw whenever possible, I just wish that I one day can hit a point in my career where I dont draw for money or other people but draw for my own pleasure. Its funny, but everything I have drawn gets sold, but thats a price to pay in order to start a career as an artist. Its really funny but when I first started, my art would sell, for 10 to 20 dollars a sketch, over time its turned to 150-500 a sketch, depending on level of detail. Im only 20, so I still have a lot of learning and a lot of drawing still to do. tnx for the comments..
Underwurlde: WOW, thanks very much, not to get spiritual or anything, but if you think about it. God is the great artist there is, im happy to have been born with art as a talent...
P.S. really thanks for all the comments, wasnt really expecting it! Just thought I would through up a sketch I did. When my site gets uploaded and finished, ill give you all the link to check it out, for there is a ton of new stuff I have been working on. Keep posted..
