Hope they don't cut the backward compatibility... I'm still playing games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Ridge Racer and so on from time to time!

I dont think it's really a possibility. Backwards compatibility is such a huge plus for people who buy a PS2. I doubt Sony would want their consumers to lose out on thousands of game titles. I've also heard rumors that the PS3 will be backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games via emulation.

It would be cool if I didn't already have a PS2. :D I think it will be interesting to see what design they come up with though.

Guess the PStwo will look pretty cool. I love the PSone Design, it's so small and lovely... It still has it's place under my TV Set :)

@Array: Yeah, I hope so... But there have been a lot of rumors lately that the PStwo won't be backward-compatible. I wouldn't buy it if that's true. I sold my PS2 a while ago, so the PStwo would be a cool thing for me.

Me, personally, I love playing "old games" that I missed to play cause I didn't have the time or whatever. It would be really cool if Sony would bring up some kind of "Online Retro Game Center" with the PS3. Imagine: You power on your PS3, connect to the Retro Game Center, scroll through a list of PSone/PStwo Games and beeing able to download them to your PS3 HD for a small fee (say, PSone: 10bucks, PStwo 20 bucks per game) - That'd be awesome for gamers and companies would still earn a few dollars for games they aren't really selling anymore.

Playing Tekken 1, Final Fantasy VII, Soul Blade, etc. again... Or just quickly downloading some Bomberman or Worms game cause some of your friends pay you a visit - With broadband in a lot of households nowadays I think that'd be a very, very cool thing. Just some dream I have, but that would be the kind of service I'd expect from future consoles. Microsoft is already doing some great stuff with Xbox Live and I expect nothing less from Sony.

Nice. I'll be getting this solely for "Wanda and the Collossus" *drools*

Ever since I've broken my ps2 after the warrenty was over I was hoping they'd make a pstwo.. I hope it'll be a bit more sturdy than the flimsy ps2 (especially the tray, I hope they'll just go for a popup lid instead).

if they do price it at around 100 bucks (as the article says they hope) instead of 150, i'll buy it, i haven't gotten a ps2 or any game system for a while, but the added bonus of it being a decent dvd player would push me since thats only a few bucks more than a low-end player.

You probably don't have to worry about it. The PSX chip in the PS2 handles IO for PS2 games. I don't think they could dump backwards compatibility if they wanted to.

For the Grand Theft Auto games they dumped the music onto the PS1 parts, and I'm sure other games have done similar things, so they couldn't remove backwards compatibility without crippling some PS2 games.
