View Full Version : Need help in wings3d
B3owulf 09-17-2004, 01:26 PM Hi,
I've been using wings3d for several weeks now and have read most tutorials I could find on the net. I did'nt find a solution for the following problem however:

I want to move the selected edge loop along the edges marked by the red arrows, that means without changing the shape of the object.
Does anyone know how to do that?

With the edge loop selected, right click and select Slide - isn't it really useful?! I dig Wings so much..

hmmm -- there is no 'slide' in my edge menu -- what version of wings do you use? Maybe it's a plug in?

Yup. Select the loop, right click and click slide. (It's just below the "Scale Radial" command)
And it's within Wings, not a plugin (It was back in .04, but not now). It was implemented in Wings at version 98.22c if i'm not mistaken. I reckon you should get the latest version. 98.25, with the new connect tool. :)

Ah, I'm using 0.98.20c, because newer versions crash on me if I try to do UV Mapping.
Thanks for the help.

but... even on older versions there is a slide for v/e/f, just select whichever, rightclick menu, right click on move, left click edge to slide along and then simply right click to envoke and move your mouse ;) :D
but yes indeed, download the latest, as suggested, it is great :)

OK, I installed version 0.98.25 and modelling with 'slide' really is fun. But now I'm facing new problems:
- The povray plugin doesn't work anymore.
- If I try to do UV Mapping wings3d crashed and my X-Server hangs, using 100% CPU (cf http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1024516&group_id=33028&atid=406952).
I don't know under what circumstances this happens, all I know is that it happens with wings > 0.98.20c. The problem seems to be specific to some part of my linux distribution (Source Mage Linux), since it does not happen with debian (debian has wings3d 0.98.24).
I think I will stay with 0.98.25 for now.
Thanks for the help.
Xtrude: This is how I used to model up until now -- I't was no fun at all ;)
