Two new character model sheets from Nyxies. The Wynx are introduced in the next episode and there'll be a Pyxie episode soon after. Btw, the wynx are about the size of a small cat. There a scale guide in the corner of each image

http://www.nyxies.com/SiteImages/gallery/WynxModel.jpg

Pyxie is the same as featured in the title card of the episodes.

I'm also about a quarter done with the next episode. It's coming together very well so far.

very cool :) only one small question though. if the wynx live in the mountains, why are they green? i would imagine something more earthy in appearace.

keep it up though

Yep, you're both right. They generally do live in warm moist tropical envirments but they are adaptable enough to survive just about anywhere, such as desrts and mountain tops. They're not native to those area's.

I always loved your weird funky toon dudes. Very original, great modeling AND texturing. I could learn a lot from you! Keep it up!

I love both of them, just had some minor comments.
I have nothing to say about the second character, but the first one, might need an eye. I need a focal point, and that normaly is the eye. and his feet are fine, I just wished you could carry some of that texture to his toes.

Thats all

;)

behzad, thanks for the comments! The wynx does have an eye,... well it's more like and eye tenticle (kinda like a snail). It's a little confusing in a static image but trust me, when you see it in motion there'll be no mistake. It's pretty freaky (but in a cool way) even to me. As for the feet, they are an experiment in tranlucency/sub surfac scattering. There's a lot of viens and stuff under the surface. Hopefully that'll come through once he's in motion, otherwise yes, I'll be revisiting the wynx texture in the future.

Mike you seriously rock!! :buttrock: and I'm happy to hear you're still going strong. I really dig the designs on these characters, I'm interested in seeing how you're going to pull off making the wynx walk with those feet :)

Keep it up

P.S. check your PM in a sec

Capel, Everything will be revealed to you at www.nyxies.com (http://www.nyxies.com)

lildragon, Thanks a ton. Very much appreciated

gundog, Hey man, yep, I asked her in Paris with one of those giant Rock Candy rings. It's all in the news section on the nyxies site. Wheeeee!!!!!

Black&White, Thank's for the comment . :) There's a little bit about that in the comments above. Most of their emotions are expressed by a combination of their mouth, brow shape, and body language.

K, here's the little extra I promised. This is a very early environmet test for the next episode. Please keep in mind this is not a complete thing.

pabbloz
08-12-2002, 09:11 PM
wow! very efficient! just 5 min after I posted! and we already have an extra!!
I think is an amazing scene! I really like the eof and how the cavern is modelled  and those crystals with their lights are incredible too!

Just two critics.. the less important is the image is a bit big in Kb size
and the second one is I think the floor texture is a quite colors saturating (too much colors wich maybe don't fix very well with the style you show until now, althought maybe is more about the style that we have not watched yet!). so.. more or less... it seems a bit too much "realistic" for me, but anyway... I know that this is just a still of an episode that only you know how will be.

so finally... great work again and we wait soon more extras and the making of!! (how about the % progress of the Ep II ?)

anticz

Whoops, fixed the file size.

anticz
08-13-2002, 07:44 AM
pabbloz, Episode 2 is about 25% done. It's much larger in cscale so it's gonna take a little longer than the first.

I also just found this little gem. It's a really early animation test I did during my lunch break about a year ago (way before I had anything planned). Here you go.

wow, as allways, great job :bounce:

for some reason I thought you worked in maya. are you using the default max renderer? those crystals look beutiful. keep up the good work

btw...this is post 400 :buttrock:

anticz
08-29-2002, 08:42 AM
Wow, didn't think I'd see this thread again. Yep, just using the standard Max renderer. Don't have time to wait for any fancy GI stuff. The crystal scene rendered in 89 seconds on a dual 2.0ghz xeon.

Does that include the depth of field or is that post processed and if yes with what program?

Then again... dual 2ghz xeon and probably 2gb of ram or so... not quite my home system :hmm:

anticz
08-29-2002, 09:05 AM
It's just a simple z depth blur in the render.

TilmanW
08-29-2002, 10:16 AM
Hm. I never liked the results I got with that effect. I thought you had to have used something like lenscare but I guess you just have to get things set right :)

Mike... that crystal scene in incredible. Love the lighting and feeling.

I love the fact that you're proving that the default scanline can make some magic. Most people rely on GI a little too much IMO. Nothing against GI though.

Work damnit :)

wow, cool. I think I'll start checking back on this. I am agreeing about the default max renderer. I am a huge fan of it. I recently stopped using GI, it's just too much for my machine. Learning to be resourceful with basic tools is really important, if you ask me, and this is a super good example. good job :D

Your first episode has been a great inspiration to me since you first released it. It looks like the new stuff is a major improvement over that CONGRAT'S!!!
One comment on the pixies. I expected to see more glow coming from their heads. I just felt from your images that the glow was amoung other things an outward flowing of their contenance, meaning to me that with their beauty and probably intelligence thier faces would have the greatest glow. Just a cheap opinion from a great admirer.:applause:

Oh, wait the crystals, man you once explained how you did them and I have yet to create anything as beautiful as yours. Cudos'

Are there any mirrors?

The production design looks fantastic from the stills.

Wacksarn and Mr.D, PM me and I'll give you a link. I'll be putting it back up for public consumption when I put EP2 up and update the site.
