Title: Creature - Paleolithic Stabby
Name: Jason Kane
Country: United States
Software: ZBrush
This is something I modeled first in Maya then in Zbrush. It was inspired by concept art from Massive Black. I ended up changing the concept more than I normally would as it became a study of quadroped anatomy.
The texture was actually hand carved with the stylus as opposed to using a photo. It took a very long time.
Thanks,
Jason Kane

This is another amazing piece, Jason. I love how you textured the exposed claws and spines. You really show off your knowledge of anatomy. The way the skin stretches, drapes, and folds realistically over the muscle structure is excellent!
The more I look at this piece, the more I find little brilliant details, such as the nasal path that flows from the nostril up towards the eye.
There is one thing that bothers me about the concept... This creature would have real trouble walking. Those frontal claws don't look like they allow much heel-toe action.
Could you post some different angles and wires? Keep up the good work!

only two replies? I often get disappointed when pretty simple things got a lot of attention and stunning works like this almost go unnoticed..
this is a wonderful concept plus an excellent execution! I love the zbrushing!!

Very cool, I kind of liked the original concept a little more but that’s just my opinion (although they look very similar),
Either way you did a great job modeling it.
Keep it up
Cheers, :)

I am very impressed with your patience and attention to detail. I cannot see how any 2D concept could ever rival this beautiful sculpture. Front page for sure! Keep up the excellent work, and maybe we'll all learn a thing or two from you.
I'd love to see more angles and detailed shots of this...

Jason,
good stuff man, i like the wrinkle work on the torso and the back leg it's awesome. i don't especially like the head or front leg (the claw bothers me), but this is more of a design issue. Any other angles?

I forgot to answer a question from above.
I did indeed start this in Maya and finish this in Zbrush. This is a Zbrush rendering.
Thank You,
Jason Kane

There are no displacements on this model. This is the actual model rendered in ZBrush.
The mesh is very high resolution.
