Geta-Ve 09-17-2004, 12:06 AM Hey just saw this at IGN, http://pc.ign.com/articles/548/548587p1.html?fromint=1 seems that a new bioware title will be utilizing the unreal 3 engine...

I've always wondered how long it took them just to create the source art for the UE3 demonstration scenes.
That one with the bloom-lit bird statue is supposed to have 100,000,000 polygons in the source art... That's a lot of normal maps to make sure they're all good. It's already hard enough fixing any little error that you can get with normal maps. "Oops, his nostrils appear on the front of his nose. Gotta fix that!"

I thought normal maps are generated from the high res model. They can't be all tweaked, that would be nuts!

I hope it's another D&D game...but it's unlikely since Neverwinter Nights 2 has already been announced.

will be interesting to see what they do.. but with the success of kotor and the likely success of kotor2 then it is very realy posibilty that it could be kotor3 or some other sw like game...
either way I think we are in for a treat :)

KOTOR 2 is being developed by an external developer to Bioware with Bioware overseeing the details.
Bioware is currently focusing on Jade Empire, and from what I have played of early builds...it is going to blow peoples minds away. A new baar of excellence.
Expect whatever they do with the Unreal 3 emgine to set new levels of quality as well; especially since working with a predefined engine buys you more production time for polish and pizazz.

I asked my friend at Bioware and his lips were sealed, damned loyal employees... hehe jk. I'll be interested to hear what they plan to do with it, I hope it's something Star Wars. Like an Episode III FPS or something.

I wish they would'nt reveal they are working on a new game unless they are ready to drop some info
Dragon Empires was canceled due to "technical issues".
Just to clear up any confusion...
Dragon Empires was not developed by Bioware.
Dragon Age is the title Bioware is currently working on and alive and kicking....

$5 says NWN 2
its currently in very very early stages of development, and would time fairly well with the realese of the engine. imo

Its easy enough to tweak your nomal map after its generated from a high res model in Photoshop. I do it all the time, but if you are moving and rotating stuff around you have to pay attention and invert any color channels if necessary to make it work. If you had to go back and keep generating your normal maps from your models until it came out perfect that would be a pain in the arse. I don't think I have had any normal maps come out perfect that I didnt have to edit now that I think about it.
