i can't even think about finishing my pirate until i learn about this in depth :rolleyes:

the web is full of tutorials about this subject but i found out long ago that the best way to learn bones and deformation is to practice with them and learn how they behave in certain situations.
as far as training goes , i would recommend training from gnomon , their kinematics tapes are awesome.

ta, i forgot about them tapes, course i now need a tape player...

if you have a specific problem , i'll try to help but , i really cant generalize bones and deformation in one message ;)
that said here is my basic workflow
1-) i check out anatomy pages if i am going a real character.
2-)draw bones (rotation order set to none)
3-)arrange their local rotation axis because after you draw they get messed up.
4-)put the controls on it (ie:set driven keys , expressions , etc)
5-) bind it to the geometry (easier said than done ;) )
6-)enjoy
