Wow... quick, you have to enter this for EXPOS'E 3 !!

Is the DOF (Depth of feild) in the render or a post effect? .. it's subtle -- just the right amount.
LOL ... it's a painting, not a render. Hey - nice DOF all the same. I'm the first to admit it fooled me. .. and you should still enter if for EXPOS'E 3.

Wonderful job, especially on the nose hairs. My only comment is that the cat looks too clean overall, but of course I suppose it's supposed to be a studio photo looking work anyway. By the way, I love the reflection of the fill light in the cats eye. Great job!

Thank you with you all, of your criticisms, which helps me much in my
gaîte of progression for my paintings, I had carried out several cat
and dog for various commands, but on that there, I tried to go further
in returned, and to call into question my techniques usual, I realized
when general, I tried all to detail on visual, and has the end the
trace of a human manufacture this fact of feeling, finally best is
enemy good, and it is the right amount of details which makes that
have little this brings closer reality.
Mark.Snoswell = Ok, I will try to subject my cat for EXPOS' E 3, if it likes I would be honoured with it
Thank you still with all for your messages and good 2d or 3d for
your achievements which are really super.
(Sorry if my English is not very correct.)

I'm not gonna do what everyone else has done and praise ur work to death - front page speaks for itself - but I do have one question - Are parts taken from photographs - the nose and eyes look very much like they've been pasted in - The reflection of the photographers light also makes me wonder this. The nose looks like it aint painted - if it is - well congrats - fooled me.

That is pretty amazing. Looks like it was very maticulous. My only critique would be the sense of lighting. I'm not getting the feeling of a believable light source, therefore, it still looks a little painterly. Still, though, probably one of the most realistic works I have seen.

Really nice.
I've always had a dream of one day building a cat in 3D to a really high level and animating it. If I could ever get anywhere near this it would be so cool.

Did you use much ref to draw this? If so what?

Simon

Hello, here I found 5 minutes to make small a tutoriel visual while
waiting for explanations more technical and English!!! ,
Therefore for
this cat the receipt!!!:
1 = to seek the maximum of documentations so
as to observe all what could help me to build this cat which is
virtual with requests to smile, sympathetic cat etc... because cats
does not smile.... Then I made some sketches, which I still do not
have scanner for the moment (have time)... I polished my layout with
luminous table etc..... to arrive at the layout final=2
3=Comme Iwanted to try to go further in painting I reflected how to improve my
techniques (and I found all simply by proportioning the zones detailed
and others charged (with the passage you can see or I work and my
mouth!!!)
for the remainder of images 4 to 10 it is a traditional
setting colors I start by setting up the colors at the brush I use the
fingers, the water drop, for the copies I add some has each time I
refine textures, I all the time call into question my work and does
not hesitate to remake parts which I find average... One of my Master
who was called Jacques Poirier a my known as trick that I kept, to
make as if it were its last painting, I hope that this small tutoriel
fast will like those which wanted to see how. I hope that you managed
to include/understand because I do not speak English.....
Still thank you for all for your comments.

I can understand why some people say "It's so photo-realistic, you may as well take a photo" but this image does have elements that would make it very difficult if not impossible to photograph. The great natural pose you may be able to get with a lot of work (although cats are generally not very cooperative) but I think its the expression on the face that stands out the most, that big cat like smile and the soft expression in the eyes would be very difficult to do. If they wanted something very precise this is the only way to do it and I think and it has been very well done indeed.

technically it's excellent. The overall form.. the individual hairs, for christ's teeth... jeebus. The only thing I can see that bothers me is the lack of any real shadowing. Granted it's a white background, hinting at the fact that there is a ton of ambient lighting. Where is the specular light? The spec on the eyeballs looks funny, as well.

nice work man you must have been tired of the hairs cause i see you concentrated on the fur shadowing more in the face above the nose than on the rest of the body but cool ,like the eyes
try giving the iris slighty softer edges and texture it gives it a more wet look.
