Title: Aliensong - The Backstage (an Aliensong Tribute)
Name: Paolo Daolio
Country: Italy
Software: Maya
Hello guys,
I've just completed my personal "tribute" to a famous shortmovie by Victor Navone : ALienSong.
This short has not to see "against" the original one, but like a kind of sequel or, more
precisely, like a "in the meantime" movie.
I've done all....from the idea to the final editing, but my skill should be concentrated in the
animation :)
ATTENTION: it is really important to see my short AFTER the original one.
In my new site, just released for this particular occasion, you can find all the links you need...and
some other funny infoes about the project.
My personal webpage (http://www.japotek.com/cutnpaste)
I hope you enjoy it ! :)
Bye

I hope you asked Victor if this was okay first?
Anyway, I didn't watch this because I have to download a .rar
Can you post a quicktime or avi or something?

Ah, Im sure Victor is okay with a little homage.
The lighting up there could be a lot more dramatic. Main light should be coming from below him, where the stage is. The disco ball draws a lot of attention because its so bright, but it shouldnt be.
But you're going for animation crit and that's what feel most qualified to provide. I think animation would ALSO benefit from more focus below him. Use lower camera angles or make him lean way out to get the point across that he's watching the performer below and really admires him/her.
I think the strength of Victor's original is in the poses. The strongest poses your guy takes are the ones borrowed from Vic. Make sure you get the whole body into the action and make the poses assymmetrical. The facial animation also could be very much more dynamic. It seems like he has the same expression plastered on his face for most of the short.
love,hen

I see (in other forum) a lot of misunderstandings and probably it was my error. So, just to be clear:
1.My short happens in the meantime with the original one by Victor Navone.
2.The character is similar to the Victor character, because they live in the same
world, time and space. My character is a worker that manages the lights and other stuffs
during the Victor Navone Alien exibition. The differences are the blue cap and the little
cap onto a smile over the shirt.
3. During the victor navone character singing, my character follow the show from his elevated
site of work, and he should to manage the right levers and the right buttons. But he is a
blunderer, and he gets the right action at the last second.
4.I dunno copy or plagiate the original Alien
5.As I said and wrote, this is a TRIBUTE the the mythical movie
6.I made it not for money, I spent a lot of my time during the nigth just for fun...like you men.
Thanks

Hi,
well...here a direct link to a mov file.

agreenster: It's a tribute !!! I've wrote everywhere that the owenr of AlienSong style is Vic. I really think that nobody ask permissions to make Spiderman, Wolverine or Hellboy. Anyway I mailed to Vic, too.
HenningK: yes...you're right.
Anyway men,
My hope is that this little production could be see like a "tribute" as I already said. It doesn't compete with Victor Navone animation. :banghead:
I wanted to pull off a little smile to the viewers, no more.Take it easy ! :D

I like the idea. I'm sure Victor is OK with it.
Also agree that he shouldn't look at the camera and the animation focus should be below him. That way it will be more original.
Nice work.
Make the poses a little stronger and you'll make the people lough :)

Hi,
Its even more fun if you play both the original and the tribute movie at the same time :D
I liked the part where he pulls the lever the most.

LOL! Awesome! I've downloaded it some days ago with many other movies and only watched it now and I had to e-mail it to all my friends and find the thread back to say how much I love it!
I think it's good his gestures aren't exeggerated like in the real alien song, because he's doing it from watching, not confident about the next step. You really can feel as if he's watching and mimic(ing?)
The ball in the background and the camera's angel may be better like the others said, but i'm not quite sure, and it's interesting to test it (If you have the time and will for that of course).
And of course it's only a gesture to Victor Navone. I can't understand how anyone can doubt that.
Excelent!!! :applause:
