Don't know about this one but I watch the last one on cartoon network and it was horrible. Talk about over acting, every character tried to out do the others. I'd watch this one on tv but theres no way I'd buy it.

Actually, that looks pretty cool to me. Anybody know anything about the production credits? Cost and who worked on the picture?

I had a part on this film and it was a lot of fun. I think I'd watch this one on tv but theres no way I'd buy it. is a weird thing to say about something youve never seen. I hope some people have young kids that will enjoy it, without having to see bloodshed or bullets. Its actually funny because ive done some searches and found people complaining about trading cards not resembling the "true characters" of the original Joes".. Im proud to be a part of what i think is a cool looking film and to be part of a great industry of innovative minds.. I couldnt imagine doing anything else - no matter how great or small - there is no parallel.

I'm sure young kids will enjoy it but I'm not so young anymore. :) As for buying this I can only go by past experiances. I didn't like the last movie and this one seems it will be just about the same. If I had a extra 20 bucks and was just itching to buy something then maybe I'd pick it up. I don't have any hangups about the characters and actually I thought some of the animation was really good. The only thing I didn't like was the movie itself but I guess that should be expected since its not targeted at me.

I think "ONLY ON DVD & VHS" says it all ... ;)
I have some original GI Joe dolls but this is not for me. The guy waving his hands around with his mouth flapping for lip sync doesnt quite shout "buy me"

Now come on you.. saying I think "ONLY ON DVD & VHS" says it all ... http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
isnt a fair evaluation, or an enlightened statement (though some flapper lipsync statements are true, sadly) but seriously, just cuz something cuts out theatrical release doesnt mean it sucks.. Just means its a smart thing to do in the face of whats happening to studios these days.. Ive seen some truly brilliant peices of work on this film, and then ive seen some not so good parts as well. All in all it's a fun piece though.. you might actually like it.

i am trying to think of a direct to video movie that hasnt sucked. so far i am coming up blank. i understand that you worked on this, and you feel compelled to defend it, but 'straight to video' doesnt have the best history.

Im not familiar with which movies are direct and which arent, so i couldnt be of any help there. But on the flipside ive seen plenty of terrible "movies" that bankrupted studios.. have a cool weekend - and yeah, catch it on the tube if it comes around.

yeah wow, that animation was really well done imo. really well done. i was not expecting that at all, also the movie looked really well done. it was weird hearing that GI joe stuff after all these years, like Venoms voice? i remembered that immediatley, i thought that was really neat. i forget what cartoon of gi joe i use to watch, but brought back memoroies...of that guys voice still much much better than i expected.

There are a lot of people on this board who worked on this in some capacity, myself included. I did maybe five shots that were in the final piece. One of my favorites from my set was a shot of Heavy Duty when he thinks someone has died. I wish I could have done more on the show, but I was freelance and didn't have too much time to devote to the project.
Anyway, I watched it last night ($14 at Best Buy). I kind of liked it. I really enjoyed Cobra Commander, but the show stealer for me was Overkill. His voice was incredible, and the animation was pretty solid as well. If you enjoyed Soundwave from the Transformers cartoon, Overkill will be your favorite character in this show.
The best sequences for me were the motorcycle sequence (animated mostly by Keith Osborn I believe) and then the first bad guy lair sequence. If you enjoyed Cobra Commander from the 80's series, you'll like this movie. You can probably rent it if you don't want to buy it I would imagine.

Speaking of the motorcycle sequence...here it is in it's full glory from Keith's website:

The guy is a phenomenal animator and animation supervisor.

Just watched this one. I thought it was a pretty good Joe film, but it did have its problems. Lip sync was average, but really needed some help at times. Some of the motion is sluggish, especially the fight scenes. The Characters were well modeled and textured, nothing else was. A lot of things just had a basic "perfect" chrome or a "perfect" plastic texture.
But aside from those things (which no real person notices or cares about, only us 3D guys), I liked the story, I liked the design, and I thought the action sequences were really good.

If only the dvd came with a gi Joe figure.
But it doesnt.
I`ll save my $14 I think. Not that im saying any of the guys who say its worth the money are wrong, just after that trailer and what seems like a impartial review I`ll rent a few movies out this weekend.
Love, peace and loose lipsync.
