Hi, i have just completed a model of a mobile phone using nurbs and now i have come to texture it.

The problem I have is mapping the buttons.....they are all seperate and i want to texture them as a whole instead of each one individually, and I dont know how to do that.

Also i want to make my own material for the buttons and then just add the letters to go on top....i obviously needed an alpha, so i saved the texture of the letters as a TARGA and then used that... but it was showing the white still with the black letters. I dont know how to do transparancy using an alpha in maya either.

Please could someone help??

Cheers

Karl.

Oh PS: This is a quick modelling problem i encountered, when i project a curve onto a surface and then trim out the hole.....how do i then create a loft from the trimmed edge to another curve which is the same shape but further behind....basically like an extrude.

Thanks.

Well there is no way to texture the separate buttons as a whole... MAYBE you can try selecting all the buttons and then try using the interactive placement tool (maybe it will cover all the buttons, I don't know, and I am not on my computer right now so I can't try by myself).

Is it absolutely necesary to use NURBS? If you turned the buttons to polys you could apply a single UV set to the buttons (as a whole).

About the alpha.
Did you save your mask in your .TGA file? If you make a TGA and you used a solid background, Maya still won't recognize the ALPHA unless you drew a mask around your objects (your characters, in this case).

As for the modeling question... select your trimmed surface and then go to subobject-trim hull. Select the trim edge, then shift-select your curve and then Loft.

I hope I made any sense... :buttrock:

if you really want to keep the nurbs patches you can try converting all of your nurbs patches to polys then save out the uv an then take uv an place them how you need them on your texure an crop an save out your sections then you can you can apply your texture peice by peice on your nurbs patches set your projection to normal or what hwever you need , jus pay attetion to the orientaion of how you save out your uvs in pshop. hope that helps
