I am going on a trip and want to mess around with LW while I am gone. But I was curious if these specs will be enough to run LW successfully without a bunch of crashes and memory shortages. laptop ==> 2.6 ghz, 512 Ram, 64mb ATI card. I know the card is the weak link. But I am still learning and wont be doing heavy modelling but will be doing alot of practicing modelling things I see. Ya'll think I will be fine on this machine?

I've got LW [8] on my Inspiron 8200 (1.6 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 64MB nVidia Geforce) and it performs extremely well. I use XP Pro and the system has been "tweaked" per Black Viper's tweak guide for optimum performance. Unless the scene is heavily ladened with polys and then viewport manipulations can get a bit slow. But other than that it's great.

So you should have no problems on your laptop.

i'm using a sony viao 600mhz celeron, 256 ram 11mb video card and win me for lightwave 7.5, combustion1 and 3ds max 3.1 with character studio3.0...all work fine!

and are used for freelance work "onsite" with the laptop for cg illustrations for books and
video/dvd intro graphics for sports science training product promitional animations.

so you pc should really smoke with lightwave!

cheers!

thanks guys for the input.

Also have any of you heard of a LW 8 trial? My brother is repossessing his LW8 from me. Although I have lw7.5 I have come to appreciate some the tools that are native in lw8.

you can run LW8 without the dongle in Demo Mode...as far as i know NT doesn't offer a trial unless you maybe contact them directly...

Any chance you could provide a link to that guide? I'd certainly be interested in checking it out... :bounce:

If you are a student you can also get a copy of LightWave for 395 or an upgrade from 195.
