Ultimatum 09-13-2004, 12:20 PM Hello,
How do you render a "depth map" like this in LW8?

It sure can... :D
As mentioned, Render Buffer View will generate the selected buffers and place them in the render view window. You can then save them from there - However to write them to disk...
You can also use the image filters:
Render Buffer Export (The 'export' version of Render buffer view)
Deluxe RLA (offers depth output in varying formats (including FP))
Extended RLA Export (has depth buffer)
Extended RPF Export (has depth buffer)
Photoshop PSD Export (converts selected buffers to layers in a PSD file)
There's also a few free plugins for buffer exporting floating about that are cool (I think the one at dstorm is a good one that lets you prefix buffer filenames for sequence rendering).
Also note under the render options there is a 'Depth Buffer AntiAlias' option too...
