View Full Version : Meet BALDUR - Character
Yoshua 09-13-2004, 10:36 AM Hey
Well here is what I have been doing... (not that anyone has been wondering, hehe)
I call this guy Baldur, why you ask? cause he has a Big Rock attached to a Chain, which is attached to a Belt around his Waste. This dude is skinny, he has Big Strong Legs, he has to drag the Rock around. He will have a Tiger like Foot, and a kinda Rat'ish type head. (I still dont have a scanner so I can't scan in my sketch to show ya's  )
Now I want some good crits here. I wana do a good job on this guy, so please HELP :). ATM he is looking ok, right? I want to Texture this guy, and do it well. I would like to animate, but not sure I have enough experience to animate this guy, he will have a fair few polys to handle.
For now I find the arms may look too short? hmm, maybe it will look better once it has hands. But what do you's think?

I've only added detail to his chest area and arms. For a change I started off with the body, normally I start with the head. ;)
Software: 3D Studio Max
Renderer: Max6 Scanline

I assume you have not started on the groin/legs and will not comment on that. I would agree that the arms do look a bit short, unless your deliberately distorting the proportions, the elbow comes down to the navel almost to the hips and then the wrist is about half way down the thigh. However the shape of the arms and the chest looks great in my opinion, The neck does look nicely stretched in preparation for that big rock. I assume you are just starting work on the stomach as it looks quite flabby and miss-shaped.
Nice start, good luck with the image.

Looking good sofar...
Yes, arms look too short to me. Neck looks very thick.
I am assuming, like Frank, that you are still going to work on the lower torso...
All comments are subjective so don't let em influence your original idea too much.
Keep it going...

Hey
Thanks for the help 'Frank Dodd' and 'evandavies'.
As you can see in this full'er picture, the arms definetly are to short. Hopefully you will see this fixed in the next update. I have done some work on the lower body, hope you like. Looking forward to some more help. :)

Hi Yoshua I laughed too...then I suddenly felt sorry for BALDUR...poor dude
Hah he's got lashings of appeal, well done.
I think the transition fron thin to fat on his belly could be smoothed out a bit and he'd probably look better with some collarbone
keep it up Yoshua:thumbsup:

very nice so far.
are you going to give the nose wholes?
right now it looks a bit weird without the whole.
and i must say despite the clean mesh and good overall model, i dont like the mouth at all.

Hey
Thanks guys.
@sumdumguy: Yea I will definetly have to define his collar bone more. Aha, I can see now what you mean by the belly too.
@vladimir_: I will give him holes in his nose for sure!
@simon.wt: I hope to texture him too! ;)
I think I will re-shape the nose as well once I do. Hopefully next time you see him I will have added ears too. But dont have much time to spend on him atm, cause of assignments to do at uni.
that guy reminded me one episode of "Flying Circus" and the interview with man with silly nose.
as for work: good job
