how would have a plane with all its pieces crash into the ocean then have the pieces tumble down the surface, while breaking up into smaller, in max 4? If there is a way where it will make particles on impact that would be a plus!

Sounds like a big project Andrew... There are a couple of things you could look at.

Thinking Particles from Cebas is an extremely powerful (& expensive) rule based particle system, which would probably make pretty light work of the particle stuff. Other than that you may just need to spend some time positioning & timing particle systems. If you go to the discreet webforum, under Tips & Tricks there is a cool method of making particle systems spawn other particle systems (By Brandon Davis I think) which might work for the bits of the plane breaking into smaller & smaller pieces

For breaking up the plane you could give the 'Bomb' Spacewarp a try. If you dont get good results with that there is a freeware plugin called 'shatter' floating around which may yield better results.

Watch movies like AirForceOne at end.

this is my fast time saving approach. Below is just set of tips

create a plane
and particleObjects and make a fragmented plane. The quanity of fragments is 3-8 or what ever you like. add a mesher object. make planeparticle a mesh.

Give both (plane and fragmented plane)same postion and orientation.

Add a dummy

Make dummy parent of both planes

aniamte crashing . also animate fragments(while thinking dynamincs in mind).

YOU : If there is a way where it will make particles on impact that would be a plus!
ME: you can manuly use and animate particles of comustion particles for that easily combing with wind and gravity (defelecto too if you have fast machine). OR use particleStudio or ThinkingParticles.

SOME TIPS:
Plane will not easily blow into small pieces.
crashing reaction also depends on angle with surface , speed, and rotation velocity.

there can be any scenario.think. plane left big wing touches surface first its now broken. and amediatly get out of scene....................................

different crashing reasons will produce different result. Like patrol empty, bad flight, got fire on engine....etc

also depends on which kind of plane is goinf to crash.

if fuel get emptys and plane lands parallel to water surface. than a not explsion may occure even no park of plane broke.(im talking about big passenger/transpoting plane)

There are very less chances of fire explosion in many cases.(talking about old war planes,big transpot/passenger planes etc..)

crash reaction also depends on the surface typr. sand.sea.cityroad.in neighbour hood.

just animte the whold scene in you mind. make sure it is beleiveable by other people(not GfxQualitivise but as i already told you different scenarios produce different many people even children can detect them.)

this project requires patients and guts.

it requries good aimation skills.

simulate every thing in your mind.

*you can use mesher to make partivle frag objects into a geomatry
