hi

this is my second real attempt at modelling....i modelled this cheetah with a reference pic in the left view port, taking a small box at the tip of his mouth and then extruding it till his tail and adjusting the vertices accordingly....... i'm not sure i've done the wisest thing 'cos it took me so long to model this much....and i'm just not satisfied with it.... have a look at it at the following links:
http://uk.geocities.com/chargin_stallions/Cheetah.html
http://uk.geocities.com/chargin_stallions/cheetah_left.html
http://uk.geocities.com/chargin_stallions/cheetah_top.html
http://uk.geocities.com/chargin_stallions/cheetah_perspective.html

the links show the mesh having NURMS iteration = 1
and polygons -> smoothing groups -> auto smooth =180

please tell me if i cud try out some other way to model it in a faster 'n better way... also the above mentioned way landed me with a very heavy model... 2550 faces...(before applying NURMS)
Also... can i improve upon this model somehow ...

regards
ice

Hi,
i think the head is too little. There is a problem of proportion. And from top it's seem a little flat. I don't know if you understand.
But i'm not the master of modeling. :) There is a lot of very good modeler in this forum, perhaps they can help you more.

it's just what i think. :D

possibly, you could get more reference images to the muscle groups of a cheetah and model them in as well (use cut & extrude/chamfer in 3ds max). It just looks a bit angular to me, kinda like a square cat as opposed to a sleek one.

Don't be afraid ot remove things as well as adding them in order to refine your model. With experience you will develop your own methods of mesh editing according to the tools available in your software.

Nice effort so far.
