Hey I heard that MAX 6 will be written from stratch. Really? Then there will be almost no bugs or instability and from now on can we say any disadvantages for it. NOOOOOOOO. Then it will really rock. It is near perfect now. but then will be the best I think. any ideas.

Hmmmm... Shouldn't this be in the Max forum and not in general discussions?

No big foul, though :D

AFAIK Discreet hasent confirmed this rumour - 6 months ago people were saying 'Max5 is going to be a complete rewrite, there will be no bugs...' etc etc.

Even if it is a complete rewrite - I'd lay down a lot of money that there will still be bugs & instability issues, Every piece of software this complex has them...

rewrite will help

easy port to other OS
make it stable and bug free
to compete serioulsy with maya and xsi

:: there is no such thing as bug free with highly complex applications. As a programmer, bug always find themselves in my software. You just have to code an app well enough to provide updates as needed. A complete re-write might or might not benifit discreet and users. It all depends. Max 4 (along with all the wonderful updates) is already a very stable application. I've been working on a project in max (2 instances) for a week now and I still haven't shut down. ::

:: Max was originally developed as a component based application. Therefore, they can still build rebuild the app piece by piece and I believe Discreet is doing this.

Max going cross-platform will definately strengthen it's competition. On the other hand, 64bit PC computing is almost here which means discreet may decide to recompile max to a 64bit version. At this point there's almost no need to leave it's current and original platform. Market wise, they save major development costs. Just my 2 cents:

I've also heard lots of rumors about a Max 6 rewrite. I hope it's true. It would certainly make sense. It would make cross platform develpoment easier. Not only that, it would be a nice chance to overhaul just about everything, from architecture to interface. It would also put discreet in a nice position to develop a really cool next generation app. Of course this is all just rumor until we hear something official from discreet.

And speaking of Max rumors, whatever happened to this 3D Studio Maximus I was hearing so much about a few months ago?

Would be nice to re-write the Doc first (with coulour pictures like Maya's), and even better if they send it up for free for MAX5.

Surely a complete re-write means more bugs than before? Sure they'll fix the old ones but there will be new ones. eg Windows XP = Windows Xtra Problems

Could it be rewritten 'coz discreet won't have problem porting this app to other systems like linux or mac?

We might expect already a 5.2 patch in the first months
seen a lot of mails with problems

1. WHERE THE HELL IS MY UPGRADE ????

Bug reports can be posted at the discreet 3ds max forum (http://support.discreet.com).

As for a complete rewrite and portability... well, recently Autodesk's CEO made a quite interesting statement about 'commitment to one platform', and 'tight windows integration' across their line of products... don't mean to be pessimistic, but I can read between the lines... anyway, I hope discreet is given the chance to make its own decisions... they developed combustion for the mac, so I guess I can keep my hopes up... cheers!
