Hi, I watched the last challenge and thought it was mad, so heres my concept for this Challenge, I drew a rough biro-sketch this morning before work while chomping on my hot cross bun, infact i think I love my hot cross bun a bit too much coz the proportions are a bit shoddy, but i just woke up.
Any way, I figure that there will be 2 kinds of people after the nuclear holocaust, those that were in power and rich enough to afford underground shelters, who still have technology and the those uptop who are exposed to the radiation.
This guy is a scientist who goes up top to collect samples and shit, hes a bit twelve monkeys, but i prefere twelve monkeys to logans run any day.

If you fail, try try try again,.......

ive seen worse things of late, like a whole team being thrownout onto the streets, like the christians to the lions....still....at least you still have your health.

JOKING!! wot a tremendous effort for a breakfast moment, though I'm not sure snickers is too healthy an option. I've heard many mn have early morning proportions, but this can only be a good thing as it shows there is still ife in you yet young jedi, and soon you will learn to ontrol the force within.

Wo is this lockwood fellow? Is he the one with the nice christmas jumper?

very good indeed....i think you could fit 13 monnkeys under his hood.

toodle-ooo,

Decided to change my concept after working for 5+ hours on my model and saving it, like a twat in one single file, left it for a bit, worked on some other stuff, came back to find it had corruptted itself! wot a bummer.
I threw a few things and had a little sulk. then spent an hour modeling and boning sphere01 (A radioactive lump of putty who has aquirred sentience)
Anyway my new character is a little simpler to allow for the wasted time. He is a mutant who roams the wastelands collecting stuff with his nice giant hands, whilst pulling his little buggy about. Anyway expect an update soon

personally im not a big fan of such distorted proportions... but when do right (like where you seem to be going) the can look really cool..the problems allways are wich parts to scale.. i think your forearms and hands are a bit too large... not too much.. just a tad.. i wouldnt have the palm touch the ground... maybe just the fingers.. so that if wanted he could just bend a little and lay the hand flat on the gound.. the way you have it it seems the knuckles are hitting the floor... in your drawing the hands are just above the ankles.. i would keep them that way..

any way thats my opinion and comment..

great work though!!!!

Ive nailed my proportions, just gotta add detail, and maybe protective clothes, howabout protective knee pads!.

just wanted to say that I love the nice big hands. you should have him cuddling the doll. Plus, i'd say shin guards instaed of knee pads.

Changed the head size as you can see, i think it looks loads better for it, I must say even though i havnt had many replies on my modelling (but i need it coz this is my third ever character model ive made, and i have loads to learn) i have really enjoyed this challenge, seeing peoples work come from a sketch to a model and all the progression along the way is excellent, i have learnt so much.
Thanks alot.

Your style really kicks ass.

I can only hope that someday i'll can model stuff like that!

Which application ?? (3DS MAX + Brazil ???)

Bluemilk
02-25-2002, 02:23 PM
Thanks, im glad you like my style, as for being able to model stuff like this, well its not that hard, this is only my 3rd character model ever, and i havnt been using max for that long. My stuff is still pretty shit compared to some of the great modellers here. Im still learning loads, and have learnt loads from this forum.
Yes i used max, and final render- for the hdri lightning, but i have also used brasil on some of the pics.
Those are the first ever pair of hands i have ever done! there still pretty shitty, any comments?

They look pretty good. A little thin, they need to be built up a bit to match your guy. The thumb is a bit wacky too...

Overall he's looking pretty killer though...

Thanks for the replies, I'll work on wot you said.

As for the feet, i had them pointing in because i was originally gone have him with metal braces that go from the ankle to the knees, give him a walking condition so he would kinda shuffle around with his feet pointing inwards, but i may not do that now.

And as for the hand yer your right the thumb is whack, ive hardly spent any time on it, infact i havnt spend that much time on the whole thing, and im pretty slow at modelling too.

I am having real trouble with the cloth, i guess everyone uses a physical simulation thing like simcloth or kelseus cloth, how will this work with my characters trousers, as he just consists of a pair of trousers, no legs underneath, so what will happen when i apply gravity to them?, will they just fall down?. How does everyone else tackle this, any pointers will be greatly recieved.

Thanks
Paul

cloth ? old school...

get a couple of reference images from letīs say
Michelangelo and start defining the fall/creases yourself.

takes hours if not days but is very rewarding to
selfesteem and in general moral :)
