i'm posting this problem here, because i think they may be related. So, the thing is i don't use artisan that much for modeling, but now i want to move on to rigging a head, and i want to use the paint weights tool. after i bind the skeleton to the head, and i go into edit smooth skin-> paint skin weights tool. I notice that there are no influence objects selected. There is a hint to rmb over the selected joint, but that only gives me an error
select -r joint4 ; setSmoothSkinInfluence joint4;
// Warning: Item not found: joint4 //
Anyone know what's going on? Should i reinstall maya, or my grahics card?

ok..... i'll try to go with that....
I guess clarification is needed.. the image above is using artisan to pull vertices... and the vector arrow that is used to indicate the pull is refreshed however, the older arrow doesn't go away and you are left with the mess you see above...
the second post has to do with this image.... when using the paint selection weights tool.

I've never seen anything like that. Artisan will leave a single vector arrow in my view when I'm done painting, but as soon as I refresh the view it goes away.

ok... so the problems were not related..
I solved the vector arrow problem by reinstalling my graphics driver.
But the second problem is still there. Unless I'm missing something here.
So my problem is. After i've smoothbind a skeleton to my model, I am not able to use the paint skin weights tool. I can use the component editor.. but if i wanted that slow kind of workflow, i'd go back to max. For some reason when i open the paint skin weights tool, there is no influence objects selected(see image 2 above), and when i try to manually select them i get the following error.
newSkinCluster "-mi 5 -dr 4";
// Result: skinCluster1 //
select -r joint1 ; setSmoothSkinInfluence joint4;
// Warning: Item not found: joint4 //
Please help me !!!!
