So I don't usually go on a rant, but lately I have been getting really steamed.
Adobe Acrobat Reader has gone from a innovative, outstanding tool, to a steaming pile of bloatware... the likes of which I have never seen. It make Photoshop feel like a streamlined, ultra-optimized code orgy.
Why must Adobe add every useless, worthless feature they can come up with?
I installed Reader v4 to test my concerns... it activates and opens a small 2 page B&W pdf that I found at random in 2.2 seconds (stopwatches are cool)... I uninstalled and installed the latest, nay greatest version. 19.6 seconds... to load page one. It hangs if I try to scroll to page 2 in the first 30 seconds... while it is plotting to show me the all powerful Update window, begging me to install some more mindless dribble that I don't need.
Why have I posted this? besides getting some frustration off of my chest.
Is there any way to tell reader to shut the f#$% up and stop trying to install crap on my machine?
Secondly, is there any way to make it actually open the PDF files I need to read without taking over most of my system resources for some insane amount of time?
I would stick with an older, reasonably functional version, but too many PDFs nowadays are using whatever new features there are in the latest distiller.
