Hey all,
Thought I'd post something up.
Help on lighting?

Sorry, Server down...

Nice face, love the mad attitude.
2 things, IMHO, the ears are not correctly attached, the connection should be smaller so that the ear lobe would be less glued to the jaw. Second is the nostril (IMHO, as always) that should turn a little more on the sides.

And if you want a tip for the lighting, I give you mine : Start lighting your object from behind (back light) and then ad lights more in front. The purpose (to me) with lights is to draw the volume.

You're not far from an excellent image, continue !

Yeah, Facial Deluxe, thanks for the critical eye.

slappin' those ears on is always a bit tricky... and I'll reconsider the nostril wings.

I'm not convinced by the cord yet... maybe it needs more of an apparent attachment to the shoulders.

and I see what you mean with the lighting... I'll see what I can do.

Thanks again !

Forgot to say that the eyelids and mouth are really well made !

Agree about the cord, I didn't see it first. Perhaps a bigger nail (but not too big), and perhaps try to make the cord red (just an idea).

Cheers.

Thanks Facial,

Thought I'd add to this thread by throwing up a mesh.
The geometry on the neck doesn't jive anatomically, but hey, artistic license right? (at least for your own projects). I was rushin'.
Anyway I make my living as a sculptor, you know, dust, weight, garbage...man I love it.
'bout a year ago a good buddy who teaches cg animation here in chicago turned me on to this stuff. We're collaborating on a short. Sometimes I miss the dust and weight.

EARS: Well you noticed mine were a little outta whack. Ears are tough. I've seen some great examples of CG figurative work out there, but alot of that work falls apart when you see how the artist handled the ear zone. yeah it's a drag but they gotta fit.

The b/w photo is one of my sculptures from maybe seven years ago. I'd like to see them move, not with animatronics, but with this stuff. So I'm crankin on it when I can. time to shut up.

Ouch! SERVER DOWN!

Maaaaaaaaaan, you rock !!
What was the purpose of your sculpture ? Damn impressive !

Looking close to your ears, they're very nice, sorry for the previous crit. It's very close to the original sculpture.
I spoke to much.

Feel free to post other previous sculpts !

SERVER DOWN !!!
This is a portrait of Otto Dix...german expressionist painter, I like his paintings.

SERVER DOWN !!!
This is called "Family"... he has rocks in the box...and she holds two in her hands. Life-size...12 years old.

SERVER DOWN !!!

I'm putting together a site...but if you want to see more of my madness check the profile.

What's the difference between a jedi and a padawan? no punchline, was just wondering... proud to be a padawan! :D

Hello Seig.
That's really good(my vocabulary is too poor, I'll develop later). I don't often see things, let's say in overal modern art , that please me. The last one was, can't remember his name (perhaps usman or osman.. I can't recall), he made real size sculptures of african people, indians, etc., horses too... But yours got my favor. It's actual, nowaday and also social urban (city/megapole).
Really love the paranoid side of your work.
But did you leave "manual" sculpture forever ? When was the last one ?
If so, might not be easy for you to jump into virtual "Art". What happened to you ? What's your story ?

I also see some "Akira" (even if not inspired from) in the "family" piece, the flesh treatment and the baby with his phoetus shape.
Bonjour to your wife, I live in Paris.
I also like the "Bisou" one, it's really what I tried to achieve in a previous WIP (see my Avatar, yes it's small) according to the facial expression, specialy the forehead.
Ok I give you the link, but I'm warning you it's far from finished.

I've been to your site, the pictures are too small ! But I liked. You've got a great feeling with flesh and expressions (I know I repeat...)

Would you mind explaining the process, is it sculpt from clay or do you mold people in plaster or something else... ?

And for the Padawan/Jedi thing, it's a mistake I did in the profile setup I think, the rollover was activated and I moved the mouse and I jumped from Padawan to Jedi... Will change that, I don't like StarWar... too influent...

Ok your turn to speak !

Cheers.

damnation they pulled the plug on me!!!

Facial,

Did you see? CGchannel.com has GWBush! Oh yaaaahh!!! pas mal.
Thanks for showing your quick animation. Great character! He doesn’t appear very timid. :D I like that!
My ears r still raté tu as raison.
I didn’t realize you were French and your english is superbe.
So you saw Ousmane Sow on the Pont des Arts. He’s from Senegal I think. I’m not a big fan of alot of contemporary art either... sometimes too many snobs and elitists in that world, but let’s not go there.

Pardon the small photos on the site, but they are high-rez jpegs, you can save them to a temp folder, view bigger, delete. Don’t know why they did it like that. I’ll complain, and they need to update too.

No I’m not changing careers or searching for a boulot. Just learning a new way to create... c’est tout. The work you saw on the gallery’s site was realized from printouts of wireframes using Poser2 (héhé.. buerck) I used the wireframes for reference to sculpt/carve in polystyrene, then covered in epoxy. So they are very light in weight actually. I don’t work much in ceramic anymore, sometimes. No I don’t use molds as in life-casting. Sorry, it’s too boring for me to explain it all in detail... if you really want to know more, let me know. :) I think this site is educatif and often funny, so I visit sometimes. That’s the story.

I don’t think it’s ever too late to learn. I had to learn how to speak french 10 years ago to marry ma belle anne (c’etait dans le contrat :D). That’s the hardest thing I think I’ve ever done. She’s from Paris too... le Marais, pas loin de la Bastille, mais tu le sais.
Well yes, too late to be a rockstar! je m’en fous.

Don’t know Akira, but here are some links to two artists you might like. Check it out! you’ll like them.

Ed Paschke (www.edpaschke.com/) ...do it!

Ron Mueck (www.artmolds.com/ali/halloffame/ron_muek.htm)
Ron Mueck again (www.visuelimage.com/ch/verso6/pix/verso2.htm)
Ron Mueck more (www.nationalgallery.org.uk/education/artist/artist.htm)

Okay, ca suffit. You can respond si tu veux, sinon, laisse tomber, no problem. Bye.

Ah mais non, tu n’aime pas ce film? Si qlqchose est bien fait, il fo l’aprecier non? a+

"Ah mais non, tu n’aime pas ce film? Si qlqchose est bien fait, il fo l’aprecier non? "
What movie ? StarWars ? Bien fait, the last one (Episode I) wasn't IMHO. And according to the money they put in it, I was expecting better. At the moment my favor goes to "Lord of the rings", that was bien fait, IMHO.

Ousman ! I wasn't far... Yeah, modern Art blahblahblah...

I've been to the sites. Ed Paschke, very great, the early ones specialy, after the 80, 90, 2000 he specialises on faces close up. The 60/70 are really inspirating, I'm doing a title sequence and a teaser for Eurosport Channel at the moment and the ambient is around Psyche Pop Psyche Rock (soft of course (tv...)). I'm a tv director.
Ron Mueck, closer to you in the form and content also. Sort of cousin to your work ;)

Forgot to say (the 3D pic appeared to late, I focussed on the photos) the nail and cord are much more evident by now, well done ! Will this be a piece for a gallery ?
Perhaps you already know this one, but it's great for flesh and tortured characters (HR Giger style), Warning fast connection needed (huge pics).

"No I don’t use molds as in life-casting. Sorry, it’s too boring for me to explain it all in detail... if you really want to know more, let me know."
Well, yes please...

"Akira", from k. Otomo, it's a manga (anime), one of the best with "Ghost in the shell" and of course any of Miasaky mangas. Japaneses are weird genius !

Ah, le Marais, my favourite place in Paris, shops and pubs are really cool here.

And Seig, of course I respond, I don't meet interresting people every day on the web.
Salut Anne, Paris ne te manque pas trop ? Je suis dans le XXe, Gambetta.

Cheers.
