View Full Version : Ocean shader and crashing waves

Im looking to make an ocean scene with a small island in the middle. I would like to have waves crashing onto the island, but I dont think the ocean shader has a collision option. Anyone know if perhaps it does or have any ideas on how to do this? Thanks in advance.

That depends on a many things. First of all, what is the shot like? Are you going to see all the sides of the islands from the top down (easy)? That would probably use a different type of system then say, one shore (hard). I'll let you know ahead of time this is no simple question. You will not find a tutorial on it anyway, not a good one.

I guess the island would be more like a tall rocky island. The waves would crash onto the rock walls from all sides. For a still I would just paint this on with photoshop, but I'm looking to have this animated.

You are correct that the ocean shader is not the way to go for the actual crashing waves, but keep it in your scene. It makes for an excellent background ocean that can be composited in. For the foreground you are going to want a more particle oriented sytem. At least where the actual crashing is going to be ocurring. Sorry, I can't be of too much help here. If you were doing it from above maybe.
