Has anyone any experience in single frame slicing in the stand alone Mental Ray? We do alot of still print work where im currently working, and the only drawback is the amount of time it has to take for the final render for a high res image (im using maya 6 and Mental Ray 3.3).

Can anyone send me a link to any information about the command line for Mental Ray needed for slicing? IS there an easier approach? We have 10 machines on the renderfarm at the mo, which dont get used that much, so i thought it would be ideal to slice up a render across all of this machines.

Cheers,
Dan.

Was just going through the Rendering with Mental Ray handbook.
I think that is what i was after:

ray -hosts castor pollux -- scene_name.mi

where

ray = Mental Ray executable .

-hosts castor pollux = multithread on machines caster and pollux.

-- scene_name.mi = file to be rendered.

Will have a go with this later on. I suppose it would be pretty easy to set this up so it works with apps like Royal Render.

Just thought id mention that i got it working. Ive also got so i can render on my machine and it will use mutiple machines on my farm too at the same time, like Renderman can.

If anyone had the same problem, would be happy to give more info on how it got it working in the stand alone Mental Ray.

Cheers,
Dan.
