hey!!i seem to have a problem with my internet.
when i look at the modem diognostics screen it says that i have steady outgoing traffic of 286 kbps.
and all the stuff i want to download seems to be going quite slow.

i have used ad-aware and Norton antivirus but they don't show any viruses or spyware stuff.

any idea what the problem could be?
the support from my isp is useless.
cheers!!

Get spybot search and destroy it is another spyware utility, but it will find files that adware will not. They are both needed to be sure. I have had just a few spy files kill my browsing/dl speeds. I would try this first.

good luck

Are you running windows xp. If so have you installed SP2. After I installed SP2 i experienced a lot of slow down on my web browsing I have cable with 384kbps download. And it seemed that my onboard lan was the problem. I put a NIC card inside the pci slot on my mother board got the latest drivers (from the manufacture) and it was back to normal. So for me this seem to happen after and sp2 install. remember sp2 has more firewall options. let me know if this helps

Oh are you experiencing the slowdown when downloading or when just trying to browse to a regular web page

hey!!

well this is definately very strange.
i have run spybot, ad-aware and norton virus checker.
i have removed all the things that they found, but i'm still transmitting loads more data than i'm recieving.
is there anyway to find out what is causing this?
or to see where the data is going?
i'm running xp pro.

cheers!!

hey!!

no,i keep putting off the auto upgrade thingy.
it never used to do this tho, which is why i'm guessing it's spy ware or something.

thanks!!

with windows xp/2k its a very good idea to get at least all the critical patches you can.. (up to XP's SP2) .. there are many viruses out there that can download them selves onto an unprotected system without the knowledge of the user.. thru flaws found in Windows.. in fact its almost manditory to upgrade and install all the patches before even thinking of hooking windows xp up to the internet (directly.. if you're behind a firewall its a bit different) because almost instantly XP will get infected by sasser or blaster.. or some derivative .. causing the user much headaches :)
