View Full Version : Raytrace reflection weirdness!!!
pixelguy 09-08-2004, 05:20 PM I am rendering a scene with Raytracing turned on, and when the object reflects itself, the reflection has no reflection of itself. For example, if you have chrome wineglass shape, and the base color is blue with reflection cranked up, the top of the wineglass should reflect onto the base of the stem of the glass. The environment reflects onto the glass fine, but the reflection of the glass onto itself is pure blue, being just the base color with no reflection in it. Is this something new in Maya 6? I don't seem to recall this ever happening before. I have tried this on multiple scenes on different computers, all with the same result. Is anyone else getting this problem?

in the glass material attributes, up the reflection limit from 1 to something like 10.
As it is, maya tells it it can only reflect once. So when it tries to reflect again off of the glass, it has already used that one reflection. And maya tells it to display the object color instead.
P.S. you might have to also up the reflection limit in the render globals.

DiGiman - Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!
I am such a doofus! I didn't even realize that you could control the reflection limit in the shader itself. I thought that it was totally controlled in the Render Globals.
