View Full Version : FINALLY I can reverse Transparency maps with a shader!
Cinema4DXL7.3 arrived today at long last!
I'm finally upgraded (just in time for R8 to come out!)
The great thing I found out is that Smells LIke Almonds allows me to use transparency maps that are reversed (white = visible, black = invisible) and have them work in Cinema!
The Colorize SLA shader allows for this!
But white on the left, black on the right, gray in the middle of the slider, load your transmap and voyolay! Instant reversed transparency map!!!
WOOHOO! Gotta love innovation...

:) Happy for ya man, It’ll be quite exiting for you cause of the upgrade to 8 soon as well.
You've no idea how long I've waited to have this functtion in Cinema!
The previous render engine I used was Vue d'Esprit, a very inexpensive landscape editor similar to bryce, which allowed me to do that years ago.
Ever since I started using XL6, however, I've had to always reverse transparency maps... it was such a pain in the butt!
Now it takes thirty seconds to do one, and two seconds for the rest in the scene by copying the channel!

SLA is a wondrous thing! Be sure to check out Fusion, which also allows reversed maps and is the key to making SLA shader trees.
I saw that!
does the BN site have tutorials on those?
God it's been a long wait for these features!! :D :D :D
here's what I prepared for some people who user Poser with Cinema on how to reverse the transparency mapp...

Select the filename in the image field and copy it to the clipboard CONTROL C
then on the arrow next to it hit that and select BhodiNUT Channel: BhodiNUT Colorizer.

And paste the filename into the image field as shown...
On the bottom of the slider, select each of the three colour boxes by double clicking on them and change them to how i have them here: white, gray, black

You can slide the gray box left and right to darken or lighten the transmap.

hey grey, happy rendering now! as for the sla tutorials, i think there are no tuts out there as far as i know. that is also why i wanted to write one or some a few weeks ago but unfortunately i suddenly had a bunch of work to do ever since. so i'll see that i write them when i got some free time. i think they will be about creating natural textures like stones and landscape materials. or maybe i'll just write down some tips and tricks, i dunno yet....aaahhh just remembered a sla tut out there..gotta find the url..mom....here's the first: landscape tutorial (http://www.liquid-light.org/land/material/material1.html) and the second: cloud tutorial (http://clouds.liquid-light.org/tut1.html) . i hope that helps for the start. :)

Here's a great SLA lanscape tutorial, although I think you're better off using falloff in the color/bump channels.

Keep 'em coming :D
Maybe we can get us a little archive of SLA Tutorials going :D
