hi,
after a couple of years of doing the majority of my illustration on the computer, i've decided to teach myself how to paint again, with real paints :omg:

this is the first painting i've done in over three years. it's acrylic on textured paper. it turned out ok i guess, but i'd appreciate some pointers.

ps: the background is intentionally quite basic, so as not to be too ambitious too early!

I like this one, exellent painting... as for crits, I think you lack a tad of dept in the area of the dragon head... try adding the second horn behind the skull line.

Funny thing is I did exactly the same half a year ago:

I like yours the most by far anyhow :)

thanks gryphon,
i like the lighting in your painting! the head of my dragon is almost in direct profile, hence i haven't shown the other horn etc. i know it's probably not the best practice to put the head in profile like that but it's just the way it turned out

Great work, I like the extreme colors, I guess I wouldnīt have enough courage to use them that way, Itīs always risky, but you master it perfectly.

Really great pic. Outstanding that you used all primary colors and it looks quite natural. I love that you highlighted its scales with white dots and that it doesn't look overdone.

Crits: The wings are at different angles, and they should be on the same plane. Also, they look more like solid, straight airplane wings stuck through his back rather than a part of the dragon that he can fold up when he's on the ground. Think more like a glider frame with a skin pulled tight over it.

thanks guys,
i agree with you about the wings ilikesoup, in so much as they need to be more transparent. representing different types of materials is something i always have trouble with in acrylics.
it's true that in a neutral pose the wings would be on the same plane. but during flight that doesn't hold up. i thought he looked too stiff with them straight.
