Hi, There's a cool Hewlett Packard commerical playing in the US right now. The people hold up white frames that turn to pictures of whatever they frame on the screen. How do you map the image on the screen to the white frame? For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here's a link, I think it's very cool:

Thanks,

This is just a guess, but I'd say they first corner tracked the frames. Then a still image from an earlier or later frame or a clean plate was corner pinned to the frame with matched shading applied. Some of the frames are probably cg some are probably practical. Choosing an approach to use is done on a case by case basis depending on what's the least complicated, least expensive, and the most real looking. You can also switch approaches in order to keep the viewer guessing whether it's real or not.

Cool ad. HP has another cool ad of some guy walking through an office and it keeps switching between him and a CG version of the guy.

I was thinking the same thing. The white boarder they use its great to track. Then a certain frame they cut out a picture when it's in front of the person and just track/attach to the frame. I love the hp commercials. They have so much creativity to them. I like the guy walking threw the offices while everything in the background changes. I was thinking how long the green screen could of been for that walk

There is an article in the current Film & Video (page 10) that tells how they did this. It was made by people from Chrome and Zoic.

I was really enjoying that commercial until I noticed how CG his clothes all looked. Unfortunately that is all I can now see when the commercial plays.
