View Full Version : Newbie needs help in Blender.
Zarnick 09-06-2004, 08:23 PM Hi, I'm starting with 3D from, a....let's say a week, and have found it is just Marvelous, and since I don't have money to buy maya or things that are not Open Source, I need to use Blender. Let me say it is a fantastic tool, and since I'm a newbie, here's my problem:
Look at this pic:

Can you see the squares in the ball?(it is a mesh ball) How can I get a good efect(without the squares)? Is it in the rendering process? The modelation process??
Thanks, hope you guys can help me, and I hope I've found a good 3d forum.

hi, perhaps if you would post this question in the Blender specific forum you would get an answer much quicker... ;)

hi, perhaps if you would post this question in the Blender specific forum you would get an answer much quicker... ;) I agree, you should post on the Blender forum first.
Now, about your problem, just select the ball and click on the "Smooth" button located on the 'Edit Buttons Panel'. That should take care of your problem.
If you ever need the squares again, the "Solid" button will do just that.

Well, isn't this the blender forum? So sorry. But for an answear, I've already did the smooth thing, and everything seems the same, I'm using NURBS sphere, and now it is fine, but I would like to use a Mesh sphere, help.

i'm not very experienced, but i think i know where's the problem:
-go into edit-mode (select the sphere and press [Tab]) then select all vertices ([a]) and klick "Set Smooth", this should work.
interesting too is the "Auto Smooth" swich, which smoothes faces automaticaly until the given ammount
hope this helps

a note about auto smooth,...you won't see its effect until you actually render,...it won't show up in the 3D window. It is the ideal thing to use if you are making say, a mechanical part that has both smooth regions, and also edges.

To convert a NURBS object to a mesh, select the object and hit Alt+C. Click Mesh on the popup.
