View Full Version : Elemental Concept

This is a concept for a contest being run by Bobo_the_Seal on polycount.com.
This isn't my first digital painting but it's the first 1 I've been happy with to show.
I'd like some crits on the overall quality of the painting.

It looks really good; however I think you need to play around with various tones more. While the shadows and detailing in general are good, a more dramatic light source, and variation in some of the textures in which the character is being made out of could use more contrast. Right now, the arm in the background especially is kind of being lost due to the unusual form and consistent coloring. Try just a real light blue wash with a multiply layer turned way down so you can play with the contrast and a yellow ovl layer for the forground side of the character...just to give it a little more depth to start.
good luck though, it's looking very cool

I get confused about the feet, is he floating or something?

Made some changes. I tried what you said Rhid1en, I have a very light blue and a very light yellow as you said. Uncon, for the sake of the painting she's floating but her feet poke into the ground when she walks.

The new version does look better. Well this isn't very necessary, but put in a ground or floor, so people dont get confused and this its flying. Also I think you should play a little bit more with the tones. Also what did you use to make this ?

i agree with cg210: a floor with a shadow underneath would help it 'float'. Or clouds, or something.

Awesome I dig the trees sprouting out his head but i agree about floating thing and if it is a she i think make her a bit more feminine cause she looks very masculine
