Hi all,

I am following those good tutorials at MR2K, of Joan of Arc. And while doing the head, I noticed that at first it is instructed to create sucesive cells by cloning the edges of existing ones, by shift-dragging. Also further in the Head tutorial it is instructed to basically do the same except that it is done by extruding the edges, pretty much resulting in the same.
Does anyone know if there's supposed to be an advantage to one of them?
Or was it instructed this way just so we would learn another way of doing the same thing?

Thanks in advance guys :)

They are the same thing as far as i know. Only difference i think is that if you shift drag you can drag it into any position you want and its faster. If you extrude itll just extrude in the direction of the normal.

Probably as you say just thrown in there to teach you another method.

if you'r gonna try this on a poly object in max 4 then you will need the updated poly module.

Thank you kindly guys :)

Gundog, I am able to do it both ways without any additional tools in Max4.
However, I'll get those tools you advised anyway :)

Have all a great day,

That means you haven't yet discovered poly modelling. That Jean D'Arc tutorial is good, but it's not polys.

Here's a good poly tutorial, so you can get the idea:
