View Full Version : Visualising houses

I am not too sure, if this should be posted elsewhere..

I looking for general guidelines for Architectural visualizations.

I will need to visualize some 70+ different houses, 4000x4000px each. Timeframe is about one day / house. So careful planning, I think, will be number one. The files I'm working with will be DWG-models with nothing but colours on them.

But I am more than interested hearing, what kind of rendering techiques would you go with?

I will need to model and render the exteriors of the houses. Modeling is not an issue, but would you go with Mental Ray, HDRI, or what..?? How about using the architectural materials Max 6 provides? Atleast semi-realistic imagery will be my goal.

Thank you for any help in advance,

If you've never used Mental Ray before, my only warning is that friends of mine who use it in production complain about how long it takes to render. I use V-Ray in my production work, which for architectural visualization is fast and very competent. 70+ renderings I assume means render time is an issue.

Save yourself time in pre-planning. Have a set idea of where you want the camera to shoot from, what materials you should develop, and what you need for lighting. If the houses are fairly similar in scale, do one and take three or four days to get it where you want it, then plug in the next model, apply materials, cross your fingers and hope you only have to make minor tweaks to the lighting. Build yourself an assembly line before you start.

Good luck, dude.

Thank youy very much ShaunDon.

I greatly appreciate your idea of using V-Ray. I would not have thought of that. Crossing fingers definetely is a good idea as well :)

General consepts is something that these kind of forums lack many times. Discussion are always about something so spesific that the big picture is many times forgotten.

Thanks again, for taking time to give me some ideas.

Do you happen to have a portfolio site of your visualizations ?
