View Full Version : (wip) Dodge challenger - year 71
larsgehrt 09-06-2004, 10:06 AM Hi, 4 days ago I started on this Old american dodge challenger. I think it is a great looking car, where you very easy can add your custom fittings as you like.
Hope that you can give me some feedback on how to make this a really realistic car... thx.

It looks so good, nothing to say about yet. Wait, doesn't this car appears in "2fast 2 furious"? You can pick some references from the movie, it won't be a bad idea

Hey Danielovich, i dont think its in that movie, but its for sure in a alot of other movies.
I did the front ligths, tires, logo, chrome rims, and some other minor details.
Got a little update here:

Are you sure...? Well, maybe I'm confusing it with the two cars that Bryan and Roma win in that drag race... Anyway, I've got an image "from the movie" where this car DOES appear, it's this picture (http://wallpaper.microchiot.com/i/wpp_800/9/d/2Fast_2Furious_Monica.jpg). Backing to your model, :p maybe you should make the tires a little bigger, and trying to fix a little the edges around the door. Nothing more to comment... :p

I would try to sharpen the lower body lines. They are pretty sharp on the real car, and give it a ralley hood that the RT's came with. The front bumper looks way too flat and stiff compared to the real deal, and the overall shape of the car somehow looks wrong, like someone softened it up or something. Challengers have pretty sharp body lines. The sail panel droops in too much too.

I'd prefer to see it with the original ralley hood that has two scoops in it. Also you should fix the imperfections before moving on to frills and add ons. The side body line is very distinct on a challenger and curves up on the quarter panel. Your's looks washed out like you mesh smoothed over it too many times or something. Your's is also straight, where it curves up on the quarter panel. Do you have decent ref photos?

hey Joel Huenink,
yes i have decent ref. photos. I always do the sharpening of the edges at the end of a project, because i put medhsmooth on it and then i move the vertex´s around to adjust the edges. If i do that now and then I find a mistake in the modelling i cant change it. Iám about to adjust the bodyline that runs through the side of the car, its goes a bit up after the door and then down again. I think your right about the hood, will do the real version with the 2 scoops in it...
Thx for your comment, its helping alot...

Well i added some detail to the car, brakes and some spoilers where the exhaust´s go. Iam also beginning on the seats for the car, i made some racing seats for the front and the original for the back seating.

Hello there, back again with some updates. Actually the modelling aint quite finished yet, but i just wanted to test out the vray render here. I used a big HDRI map with a size of 12 mb so that I could get a great render. Iám not satisfied with my chrome yet, so if anyone has some tips on how to get a great chrome render.. please tell me... Thx

The shape of the car is still all wrong with many errors. I used to own a challenger and did professional body work for over 10 years, and restored a few, then went pro into games, I think I am probably over qualified to tell you this. Get some good reference photos and look carefully, it looks nothing like a challenger. The hood scoops look backwards, the bulge is too prominant, the fenders have lines on the top of them up front, your sail panel looks like someone smashed it with a hammer, your bumper looks square, they are much more rounded, and you have no body line down the side, but just some moulding instead. Your fenders are way too round up front as well. Your hood pins are definitely not stock mopar hood pins. Sorry for all the crits, but if you want props for this car then you'll need to get it right.

Thats a Dodge CHALLENGER in that pic, not a CHARGER.. The Charger was in the first Fast and Furious as Vin Diesel's final car... The black one at the very end.. But anyways, this model is looking amazing.. I have no crits thus far.. Cant wait to see the final
