hey swag, i like the unconventional shape of the balloon and the design on it, but the basket area seems a little simple, id dress is up with some more detail, maybe a few more sketches of the same thing, anyway keep goin
Hey!GREAT DESIGN!!! I LOVE THE TEXTURE OF THE INCA (MAYA AZTECK...Uh?) BIRD! Go MAN go!ps:I hope u texture it !:wavey:
@rizob
the detail will come when i model :)
here is a small update of some details
@- OZ-
yehh i like the inka style too - i look for modeling the bird texture are not allowed

THE TEXTURE OF THE INCA (MAYA AZTECK...Uh?) BIRD!
It was the Nazca culture who made the figures in that style. Just to clairify :D
About the shape of the balloon, the one on the sketch looks pretty cool, but it's more spear pointed and "flatter" than the one you modelled.
Anyway, cool texture!
Keep it up!
@Joril the shape shape shape hmmm it makes me crasy i will make it better more like on the sketch - the texture was a bump no color texture!

I think that the baloon shape is very cool!Ur work is very clear and cool!Keep it up!:applause:
@ OZ thx but i think that i have to tweak the shape a little bit like the concept - what u think
WOW!!! I like it - I like it - I like it !!! Great modelling skills, very nice colors, cool concept - this is going to be great! Has a Kontiki - Thor Heyerdahl feel to it. The balloon is cool as is - don´t touch it! The propeller tips need a little attention - but that´s really all i can crit! Keep ´em coming!
@pit
thanks pit for the encouragement - i will correct the propeller tips

coming along nicely. It is hard to tell what shapes are facing where in those screen grabs. If you are at a point to render the body of the balloon-ship that would be cool.
Rob:D
PS-it could be this monitor at work.:thumbsdow

I love that texture balloon, looks great! I think too that you can reshape it like in the sketch. Also, the propeller's tower looks somewhat too different compared to the rest of the style in my view. It looks too modern. Might wanna go for something less perfect-looking. Keep it up!
@Phil "Osirus"
there is a theorie that the Nazca culture has contact to alien culture and the propeller is captured alien technik i think :)
and when i finished the gondola i look for the shape
and sorry for lagging update will come sunday
scale test

hey i just discovered this thread, it's awesome - really different from the masses
mh the shape, i don't think it looks right yet - but i don't really know how you want it to be, i think the crease in the middle should be smoother, especially up front
what i don't like is the rotor, i mean it's an interesting mix of styles and cultures, but personaly i'd see the hole thing done nazca(right?)-style...well i don't think they had engines and sophisticated metal work, so maybe you'll find a better idea - i think that whole modern engine / nuts & bolts / aligned look takes away from the athmosphere of the pic
think about it ;)
@fist
Yehh u right but the mass here love detailed modeling und the true
nazca was too simple so i decide make a mix :) i will make the gondel more complex - wait u will see - and the shape is a problem hmm i will do it last but iam very happy with the last one

that's cool with me ;)
as i said, i think it's a pretty cool mix of styles
and i agree with you, it would be more difficult to add a lot of detail without this mix..mh but i think you could pull it off, why not make it a flying fishing-boat or something else in that direction, you'd have plenty of stuff and tools to add then
i also like the way it's heading now though :thumbsup:

Come on, more updates please :p
Still looking good so far.
A little Q, how did you make the little rope around the steering handle?
What happend to the balloons bump in the last render?
Well, let's see that balloon attached to the boat soon :D
Keep it up!
@Joril
yehhh ... work work work
rope! spline curve and nurbs path (hand made :)
its a screen capture no render and maya have no open gl bump :)
soon ...

A very strange, but extremely original and interesting concept :cool:
Looking good so far, I don't really have much to crit....
I like the fact that you are going for a higher level of detail than your last challenge entry had - the detail of the ropes especially is very nice to see :)
It would be nice to see even more detail though - like pulleys, levers, chains, little devices, gauges, and that sort of thing - I think that things like this would give it more of a mechanical, working look to it - in other words, it would make it more believable as a flying machine.
Keep going - this is a lovely WIP :D
@Leigh
higher level of detail? ... i dont think so
hehehe look at the ropes in the last one is same detail
but i look what i can do to give u more detail :)

Leigh is always very hard with U !!
I don't understand why ! Many other modelers on CGtalk aren't as good as U and they don't receive such bad crits on their level of details when they post a WIP! Good job mec ! I like the aerodynamical/smoothing shape of the lower part.
seems to me like Leigh is giving extemely good critique be thankful!!
I love your design here nice work...
i like the engine..
great job..!!
Keep up the good work...
I too like the ropes very much!
@P.Delapouite
yehh but i forgive her cause i love her red hair :drool:
@road
critique is always a push to make it better
thx for the encourage words

Great Job Swag!
The "balloon" is awesome and I like all the details (cables and all)...The rendering is impressive too!
the only thing that bugs me is the design of the "iron tower"...it doesn't fit the overall design....(just My opinion !!)...Maybe the prop should be placed at the back, hold with ropes etc....
Great job anyway:thumbsup:
DimitrisLiatsos
09-04-2002, 01:48 PM
:bounce: Stipen is right..make the tower horizontal and make more cables going to the engine...other than that...add the detail u have on the ring around the balloon also around the boat...
Nice stuff!
i like what u done with the ropes very much!!!
@Stipen
u make me crazy - ok the iron tower dont fit with the design but it was not a historical rebuild - i want that mix of style one hand the historical ballon in the other a post modern comic sf style
i have put the prop on the back but it look boring in my eyes
i love that big tube to the prop and i think it makes the hole thing interesting
@DimitrisLiatsos
yes i have to put some detail on it - there comes some tanks for the
burner und tubes and i will make some ballast canvas bags and a
rope ladder or something
thx for C&C but i will not change my tower ;)
stipen
09-04-2002, 03:20 PM
no prob Swag!! (sorry for making you crazy man)
that was just My opinion at first sight...That doesn't mean I'm right!!
it's a great job anyway
@stipen
u know i love ure design and ure work and it make me thoughtfully
that it dont fit in your eyes and so i have to fight myself - i delete the tower and try to fit the prop but it dont work in my eyes i love the heightened tower with the prob it looks a bit like a ship motor turn around
update - i hope u like it

Wow, Swag, that came out really really well :thumbsup:
I think it would look really fantastic with some textures though - the lack of them kinda makes some parts stick out a bit, like that wooden bit underneath the base of the propeller, and the metal barrel/tank.
Plus, add some effects - like the burning gas...
Great model though :D
@Leigh
Thanks - but the challenge over for me no time to do that - next time :)

I like it very much! Your concept, generally speaking, isn't very diferent of others I've seen here, but the modelling and the style of your ship really makes the diference!
good work!:beer:
