Alright, I'm not a pro, but I'm not a newbie either... I am using Wings to make 3D Models for a few projects of mine (My name should be a hint...) and I have decided that it wuold be better to break them down into smaller projects to allow for more details and ease of design modifications. I decided to start small - the wheels and tires. I made the basic design on an almost flat templated and then expanded it using the "extrude" feature, and I think this is where my problem starts. I have a flat section that Is part of the rim; (Look up a picture of Chrysler's Magnum 500 wheels and take note of the trim rings if you want to understand more about what I'm refering to.) when I preform the "smooth" function to try to complete this part of the project, this flat area becomes a deep crevice! I have no clue how to fix this; I've tried dividing each section into smaller peices manually, hoping to somehow prevent the crevice from forming, but it hasn't worked. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please, let me know...

It might be that you used Extrude, rather than Extrude Region.
If you're not familiar with the differences, select some groups of faces on a sphere and try both commands.

Smooth after each tool and check the results.

I did use the "extrude region" feature. Using "extrude" would leave many crevices, but only where a line was located. This crevice is one large, circular shaped anomelie, not several smaller ones. I will try to post screenshots later, but at the moment I am on a different PC...

Ok - another go, albeit tricky without pix :)

Has the above been caused because of a lack of definition / detail / geometry on the basic model, which manifests itself after smoothing, because there are insufficient elements on the basic cage to maintain shape during this process?

perhaps you would show a pic of where you are having difficulties
