Title: Ocean Sunset
Name: Jared Kuharski
Country: United States
Software: LightWave3D, Photoshop
I started this the other night to show a buddy of mine how I would go about making water and animating it in lightwave. I played around with it alot and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
The sky is a bg image of a sunset in Yellowstone national park and the water is made with sds with procedural textues used as the displacment map.
The sun is a spotlight with volumetrics turned on, and also has a texture on it.
I corrected the colors with photoshop.

I dont think that your water looks realistic. I dont know why, its look like twist on water. I think you should add some scum on the waves. Sun rays look strange too...sun is too brilliancy - not that should it look when sunset.
Sorry for my English - hope that someone will understand it. ;P

Looks like it has veins. Like an organic ocean.

Nice picture!
I did an ocean scene some time ago. I put the settings I used for my ocean here:

I didnīt use displacement but those are the bump settings for a plane. Hope them help! :)

the water looks solid. Not sure how you could do that better tho. Something about the ridges seems a bit sharp... possibly dull those up a bi, maybe add some foam or something to break up the top.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I dont know if I want this to look 100% realistic. Actually, I didnt even think about what I wanted it too look like when I made it. But I would definately like it to be believable and also maybe push reality some so that it looks more than real or something surreal.
Hmm, I am going to work on adding some foam to the water and hopefully that will add to the realism. Does anyone know of a good way to do that??
I have read before that I can use bumb maps, but i have not been to successful at that. i would appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks for the link. It was nice to look at your settings. Mine are pretty close to yours except I added the prcedurals to the displacment map. And I am using turbulence and crumple.
