View Full Version : Jeff Parrot Tutorial/ Normal map
Halo_Renegade 09-03-2004, 11:36 PM Im trying to do Jeff Parrot tutorial on normal mapping but Im having some problems. When I try to go to the Transfer Surface Information option box it as an error saying, "Error: Value is out of range: 0." I don't know if i forgot something I layed out my low poly model in the UV texture editor and all that but i still can't get to the option box. Can anyone help what Im doing wrong or if the system is wrong?

Did you layout your UV's in the 0-1 texture space?

Hmm, dont know what ure problem is but try closing restart ur comp, open maya and re-load the plugin and starting again, maya is sometime just wierd.
I also have a question about this tutorial after i mapped the generated normal map to the low res model the view port feed back was fine but when rendered the object was never lit correctly, does maya support rendering normal maps in this way or do i have to connect it differently?

That method is only for viewing it in the gui, not for rendering. Search the maya forum, there are many tutorials about making it work in the software renderer or mental ray. Also you can check out the tutorials here: www.drone.org

I'm having the same problem with "value out of range" This happens even if i try loading the transfer surface information option box while having nothing selected. did you ever find a solution to your problem, halo?

I posted this on another thread, but so you dont have to search for it, what we did to fix it was go into the bakeSurfaceInfo.mel file and change the 0 at the end of the eval statement on line 622 to a 1. Seems to be working now. Not calling that an official fix tho, it just seems to be working now.

Sounds like your UVs are out of range. Use 0-1 range. Also there's 2 t's in my name, thanks. Best of luck with it. It's completely different in Maya 7.0 I guess.
