Thanks, I hope to be able to post something tonight, but it probably won't be until tomorrow. I don't have much to show seeing as I just started playing around a little on my lunch break.

Here is what I have so far . I am going to redo the wings, just did them quick to give me an idea how it looked. I am not sure exactly how to attach images yet so if I screw this up I will try to get one up later tonight or tomorrow morning

how u making this model? only with subdivision technic?

Well made, but - up to that stage -, the whole model/idea ist much too normal, nothing special indeed...simple idea, very geometric, no oho's and aha's...
Maybe because you began modelling without concepting first...
But since the model is not finished, maybe I am wrong and everything will change...so don't take that critique too serious, yes?

You are right I should have done a concept sketch first, even though I am not to good at that kind of thing. Right now I am just trying to get the basic shape done. Later I plan on trying to add some cool unique things to it

hey coming along well
i bet u just placed the primitives for placeholder purposed ? ;)
once you've refined that (ie given the ski's a rounder shape and so on) and added all your stuff this should be a great piece of work
keep us updated :wip:
Bpanting

Thanks, yea the primitives are just place holders for now and same with the ski's.

...even if you can't draw. It's enough, that you see the idea behind the scribble....I never look at the quality of idea-sketches (okay, some are outstanding like the OZ-scribble-waves), I always only focus the idea behind...
...on the other hand, you can waiste much time, if you directly begin to model....only to find out after hours, that the whole concept is maybe wrong...
Greetings

I know alot of people say the Maya render is no good, but part of the problem could be me. I am still trying to learn how to render better. Like setting up proper lighting and that kind of stuff. If anyone has any tips that would be cool.

looking lovely...mayaguy...we live in the same city...do you go to full sail?
Bpanting
08-14-2002, 06:19 PM
Thanks, No I didn't go to full sail, but my cousin did thats how I got into this. I started out as a drafter then got into 3D, been learning it on my own.

No hellrender it is not render what is important is the "thing" beetween keyboard and chair ...guess what is it
.....mine is maya too and i thing not looking bad at all. no way it is modeling WIP no rendering/lighting so i will judge the modeling ONLY , it is ok , just add more detail ? and I think these wings dont work well..try something more interesting ?
keep up:bounce:

Very nice series of WIPs its really comming along well and judging by the progress you made on the detail, I'm sure the finished model will look great.
Good luck

I worked some over the weekend but nothing didn't do anything worth posting. Most of the time woring was spent on cleaning the model up. I still have quite a bit of that left to do. Anyone know if we are allowed to use particle effects for the final submission or not.
freemind77
08-19-2002, 02:10 PM
particle effect ? do you mean Paint effect instead ? If so , i don't think so...but you can try it , its not contest but challenge...we all just trying our best :wip:

Thanks sarfarazsoomro.
particle effect ? do you mean Paint effect instead ?
No I mean using particles for like smoke effects or steam. I want to have both coming out the different engines after I build them.

Here is a quick update nothing to major. Hopfuly I will have some more to show later in the week.

Yeah i would go for the particles or you could use lights with fog. Anything that makes it look more real the better i say. Even if it cant be used for judging its still worth the effort. I see these challenges as away of making good images for yourself/demo reel/portfolio

i love the design! great modeling, too.... got any wireframes we could see?
i'd also like to see some more detail in that central box...dents, screws, anything!
keep on rockin the free world.

Thanks for the compliment, I would post a wireframe but its still kind of messy. I still have alot more cleanup left to do. I will try and get one out before its all done though.

I didn't get as much time to work this weekend but here is what I got done. Most of the work I did was building the steam engine. it still has a little way to go but this is the basic layout.
