View Full Version : A Train on Train Tracks Help!

Hello,

I have a train engine and 2 other cars to be placed on train tracks. Right now I am using the curves I made for creating the tracks (animated snapshot of the rail ties) as the motion path for the engine. I then parented the other 2 cars to the engine. This of course doesn't give me the realistic behaviour of the cars following. I had to key frame the cars position in relation to the tracks. I then had the bright idea to create a simple joint and then parent the joint to the engine and parent the cars to the joints. Still had to key frame.

Is there a better way to do this so I don't have to keyframe the cars? Thanks for any help!

could make them dynamic and use hinge constraints, or use the path follow for all the cars on the tracks.

I think the easiest way is to attach each car separately to motion path (as "westiemad" has suggested). then offset each cars motion graph, so they will follow each other (not going on top of each other).

Thanks for the replies. I found a way to do it on aan old post. I just have to remember to search first then ask second.

Thanks!
