I'm doing a simple Reactor scene where is 150 objects dropping on a plane. Those objects are quite heavy and the file is about 100 mb. (whups :)) Anyway.. every time when I press "Create Animation" the Reactor gives an maxScript error. Is there any limits how many objects is maximum or how heavy they are? (or where does that error comes?)
This job is very important for me so I would be appreciative if you could help me with this!

Thanks
micco

ohh. and the error is:

I've had more than 150 objects I think and it went OK...

Unfortunately I can't help you, except make sure you don't have any objects selected when pressing "Create Animation". Otherwise it will be a BIG slowdown. Try that. Maybe it works.

Those 150 objects... Are they complex mesh? What kind of simulation mesh do you use for them? Try bounding box to simplify - just to see if it works.

Could be Out of memory though Reactor reports somethin else...

Oh, and also try to use a Reactor Plane instead of a normal plane if you don't have that.

I think it's a memory issue. My max just crashed saying something about memory. :) Those objects are wery heavy as I said but I'm going to try that Reactor Plane if it helps.
I can't use bounding box because my camera is so close to the objects and it has to look realistic... as realistic as reactor can give me.

Ok...
Have you tried to release memory before starting Max?
End processes in the Windows Task Manager and disabling AVirus etc etc...
How much memory do you have in your computer?´

Have you installed Max SP1?

I have 2 gb's memory and no other programs installed but max and photoshop, and photoshop isn't running. I haven't install SP1 yet, should I? :) I've heard that some plugins or shaders (dirtmap or mr_subsurface or some other) doesn't work with SP1 well and thats why I haven't istall it yet.

Hmm don't know about SP1 and the shaders. I only use Brazil as a render anyway.
2 GB should definately be enough for your operation since I only have 1 GB RAM.

I'm kind of out of ideas now. If I can think of something I let you know.

I was looking the memory usage from task manager and when I opened the scene max itself uses a bit less than 1 gb memory. And when I was creating the animation the error message came when max used 1,6 gb memory. I'm going to delete some of those objects, it really doesn't matter if there is 150 or 110 of them but it has to look there's a lot of them.

I'm using NURMS Subdivision with Render Iterations 2 (display 0). Do you know does Reactor count all those polygons from Render Iterations or just those which are seen on screen?

Normally that calculate only the screen vertices , but try to delete all meshsmooth , resolve animation , you can add meshsmooth after resolving .
Have you use the "Analyse world" option ? if reactor find an error it will say you .

Yes I have used the "Analyse world" option and it gave me some interpolation errors but I've fixed them. No there is only the memory problem but as I said to Tommy I had 150 objects there. Now I have only 100 and I think it's working now... well it is not crashed yet but it takes quite a long time to do it.

Thanks Falfa and Tommy "The mighty green giant of Sweden" :D

One last thing...

If you want 150 objects, try adding a MultiRes Modifier and play with the numbers.
MultiRes optimizes the mesh so not-that-many polygons are needed but still looks good.

Quick n Dirty is also the Optimizer Modifier who works in a similar way but have less options.

And I bet it takes some time to do the calculation hehehe... Remember to NOT have any objects selected when pressing the "Create Animation".

Thanks a lot Tommy, I will try those MultiRes and Optimizer Modifiers, but later. I don't want to stop the calculaton.. it's at 32% now and it has made that about 4 hours now so maby I will wate to the end (tomorrow morning it's done) :). Hope it will work well.. :bounce:

My god Tommy.. It's sunday today and the calculation is at 48%. Maby I'm going to stop it now and try those Modifiers you suggested.. otherwise it's never done.

Sorry to write so many times but I really have to tank again you Tommy. I used that MultiRes Modifier and my animation was done in 5 minutes. I used the modifier as instance and now after the animation is done I can take it away and have the original result... :bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce: :D :D

Thank you SO SO much..
