I have been working on many different ideas. I have come up with an air contraption that is powered by pedaling. This causes many pulleys and gears to move two large wings made of wood and fabric. The pilot sits in the machine like it is a bicyle. He uses his hands to move the tail which is also contructed of wood and fabric. This movement guess the aircraft its ability to bank left or right. The aircraft is an invention of a crazy scientist, and will most likey kill him
WARNING do not try this at home, this is only a test.

This is how the pilot will sit.

Oh and the piolt happens to be a gnome! This will be my pilot. He wears wwii googles, a carpenters belt with a hammer screw driver and wrench. He also has a homemade parachute to go along with his homemade aircraft.

i can see how ur contraption works, but a question for u. wouldnt u need the force to be applied so that the wings would go down(As of now i see they are to fall back down with gravity), otherwise the wings would just stay up as the machine falls to the ground.

Hey Aroundthefur
There are three gears for each wing and two sets of pulleys. Look at this diagram and you can see that the middle gear rotates clockwise and moves the bottom gear couter clockwise which then moves the top pulley couter clockwise and that moves the bottom pulley the same way. Attached to the pulley's belt are 2 paddles which move couter clockwise. The wing is weighted at the end and the pole is inserted into a wooden holder. at each end there is a wooden piece which does let the wing fall out of place. in a rested postion the wing's pole will fall to the bottom of the holder and the wings will go up. when the paddles come around they push up the end and the wings go down. when the paddle moves past it, the end falls back down causing the wing to go back up.
okay okay i know this is crazy but it just came to me. we all know this would never fly.....in this world. :deal:

Very nice sketches they have a great mad fantasy feel about them. The vehicle itself looks like it will be a piece of cake to model compared to the character though.

Thanks Frank for the comments! I prefer to model organic things. For me mechanical things can be harder, it doesn't leave room for experimentation or artistic interpretation.
Here are some renders of modeled parts. Give me feedback.

Some more. It's just the mesh no textures or bumps yet.

Nice stuff there, Phazak!
As I understood it, you model more organics than you do mechanical stuff? Because this contraption of yours is looking great so far! I love how the gears all come together and attach.
There is an art into what you're doing.. but it's more of a numbers and mathematical art.. the way your gears attach and turn and stuff.. it's really good work! Keep it going!

Another update. Still working on the parts, just trying to get the layout done. Like always tell me what you think.

Hopefully this works. Here is my aircraft animated. All the gears and pulleys moving. Pedals too.

I think excellent.
Love the recycled spanners.
I think the bolts holding them to the frame could be bigger though.
awesome!!!
love the animation...
that seat looks mighty uncomfortable though....
nice work keep it up!!
