Here is an EXCELLENT earth tutorial - Photoreal Earth Tutorial (http://personal.southern.edu/~dascott/tutorial01/nasa-earth.htm) :)
It's for Lightwave, but I guess it would be easy to apply the same method in any app ;)

Hey, was just popping by down here, the earth has kind of been a hobby, or have had to do it for many projects, here's another great resource:

So far the highest resolution free clouds I've seen, and if you request it, they'll even give access to 21k-42k res land maps.

Have fun and load up on the RAM :D
