View Full Version : Raytraced Shadows - Blurry, low-res?

Hey all,

I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure this out: I am casting raytraced shadows with a spotlight through a transparency-mapped plane onto another plane. The problem is, I can't sharpen up the shadow resolution at all any way other than to bring the object onto which the shadow is being cast closer. In other words, when I'm casting far away, it looks like this:

(Pretty terrible). Notice how low-res and jaggy it looks. Now, with no settings changed whatsoever, except to bring the plane closer, it looks like this:

--Which is much better.

No combination of sampling or ray settings anywhere has changed this. What gives? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Ricky

Increase your shadow rays to around 50+ or so and play with the light radius setting to get it looking the way you want.

Well, that doesn't work. I've pushed the shadow rays up as high as 80, and it does nothing at all. Messing with the light radius just blurs it out. It makes it more pleasant to look at, for sure, but it's not sharp, which I need. Anyway, I've found another solution (that doesn't use shadows at all), but thanks so much for your help.

Use texture with bigger resolution
