View Full Version : Making shoes
DiNKArt 09-01-2004, 03:46 PM One of my roomates wants to be a shoe designer. He wants to make 3d models of his shoe designs to present to companies. He saw that I have experience with 3d and was asking me if there was any type of program that he should get. My question is: What do you think one should look for in a package when doing techincal modeling like my roomate wants to do? Please don't turn this into a which package is better thread. I would preffer if you responded without metioning packages unless it truly is something commonly used in the industry.( Tor example shoe company A uses package B)
Thanks guys.

it all depends .. but usually u need a proper design based software for ur modeling needs .. nurbs are better suited to product design .. but polys are more intutive ..
u might want to go with rhino or alias studio tools for proper industrial design..
alias with alias image studio would work because u get a nice rendering with premade rendering setups so u don't waste time tweaking the render settings

I would think you would use a CAD program for something like that. 3D programs we use are more for animation and modeling i would think and CAD would be mroe for production and such, but i could be wrong. I dont know to much about it just I'm in college to be an engineer and engineers use CAD programs to really model something like a car or shoe and such. I am no expert though.
