View Full Version : Assigning different textures to different Polys
Maya defeats me. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do something as simple as assign different material textures to different polygons. I read everything I can about UV sets and done the tutorials. They all seem to concentrate only on creating layered textures (which I don't care about) and just skim over how to create UV sets and assign different textures to them. Can someone give me a very basic tutorial on how to:
1) Select a group of polygons and give them a selection name.
2) Assign a material to that selection
Bless the person that can explain this to me. :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

you just gave yourself the tutorial.
select the faces you want to apply a material. open up the hypershade and right click the material. then select assign material to selection. that's it.
Thanks. But how do I name the polygon selection, how do I assign the material to just that selection, where are those selections displayed and managed, how do I recall a selection, edit a selection, etc?

please look for quick selection sets in the maya help. then you can name and whatever you wanna do with selections.
an how you can assign a material to that selection i just said in my first post here.
I have a character with using subdivision surfaces, and when assign a texture to set of polys, those polys lose their subdiv properties.:buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock: Also, how can I assign different projections to different selection sets?
Thanks.
