Hope this is the right place,

hey all, just signed up here last night.

I'm quite new to 3d which isn't abstract, but I felt like creating something that gave me a greater sense of achievment, so after following a couple of tutorials (namely on the use of splines and such) I went ahead and re created my desk quite roughly.

I would love a better mat for the floor, and for some reason the walls don't seem to intersect quite right, any one know why that might be (I just used 2 huge cubes at a right angle to each other).

I realise i'm never gonna be a proper 3d designer, but I would like to get good enough to help website creation, create better renders, challenge myself to create random objects, and probably in the end re-create/invent some funny/interesting characters, the kind that make you chuckle.

Chris,

created in cinema 4d of course :)

This is a great start. Your first forays into 3d are much more ambitious than mine ever were. BTW, the walls don't look connected because of the shadows, not because there's anything wrong with using two giant cubes for walls. Soft shadows will 'bleed' at the intersection of two walls, a wall an a floor, object and floor, etc. It's kinda hard to explain, but the section in the manual about the shadow tab of a light will clarify it. You could probably fix your walls by fiddling with the bias setting. I'm no expert, though.
