Work on separate layers and set each one of them to color blending mode.

You can make a separate layer too for the lighting effect.

I suggest that you refer to a book on painting. Go to a well-shaded scene and sit down for fifteen minutes and look at the light. Mind you, I didn't say look at the scene nor the subject; I said to look at the light itself. Sketch the scene in your mind. Observe exactly where regions are light and dark, and by how-much. You can learn a great deal by observation.

You can implement your observations, in Photoshop, by using layers. Conceptually, imagine "sheets of clear plastic" stacked up one in front of the next, upon which you can paint individually. (The basic concept is that simple!) The underlying image is not affected, and layers can be inserted or removed, blended, blurred and so-forth individually.

Okay, i thought taking parts of the picture then painting it but taking many layers to add effects to each sounded a little wierd but i'll try it, so i can take one layer for the shadow one for the soild colors and one for the blending colors? and whats a good way to know what i place first?
