Ummm... before you do anything rash, like reinstalling maya which may not actually have any effect, try throwing out your UserPrefs and WindowPrefs files.

this represents a looong known bug on win2k/XP, the origin of which nobody really discovered yet ... some might say it's a printer-related problem, others swear on different explanations, which have become almost esoterical over time ! :wip:
i was having it for years with different applications and finally had to simply ignore it ( though it's very annoying for one can't save before it happens ) !
just type that error-message into your favourite search-engine and become flooded with useless info ... hehheh
i had the same problem never fixed it just installed on a different comp :)

I get that problem too, only on my computer at home, it's a lot slower than what I use at school.
What are the specs on your computer, because I'm guessing you either have little to no memory, slow processor, or a puny video card.

Happens to me when there is little to no harddrive space remaining for the swap file to work correctly
or at least thats my working theory

The only time I get that error in Maya is when I'm testing buggy plugins :)

I've been getting that message for years on my NT machine, from version 2.5 up to today. It usually happens when I load a specific type of file right after loading the same kind, namely my virtual character, but sometimes it also happens when I move the pivot point (in the same file). It used to be worse, slightly less frequent nowadays. It's always fixed by simply restarting Maya. I've no idea what it can be, that system is fairly strong with a Wildcat video card.
