View Full Version : Custom/Downloaded Brushes for Photoshop
Lasha07 08-29-2004, 05:32 AM Hey guys. I've been using Photoshop for about a year and a half. I've technically mastered every tool there is in Photoshop 7 and now I am looking to expand my Brush collection. Where can I get some really cool-looking brushes that I can download for Photoshop 7? Also, once I get them downloaded, how do I install them, or get them to be used when I run the actual program? Thanks.

Of course, you can always make your own brushes: Brush Making (http://cablespeed.com/~jlhalmich/brushmaking/content.html). On occassion, I'll take a few photos and make a some brushes from them using those techniques. Recently took some snaps of fish nets (not the stocking kind), and culled some real nice brushes from them.
As far as downloading goes, the only ones I've found that I actually like came from: http://www.triberadio.com
After you enter, they are on the right in a little shoutbox type deal.
Just extract the ABR file and dump it into /presets/brushes and they should show up the next time you start Photoshop.

Best brushes I found are the Nagel Series brushes (there are 19 series) by top "brush guru" David Nagel.
You can download them from digitalmediadesigner.com. Here's series 19;

Look for the other ones under 'features and 'features archive'. You have to browse a bit, but it's all worth it. Pay special attention to Nagel Series 11; the best cloud brushes I ever found.

Alright, cool. Thanks guys! Those aren't technically my "kind" of brushes, but they're cool and will come in handy sometime.

just hit google, there are plenty of PS brushes 'ring' communities so you should find your pleasure...
On top of my head I can remember these set of brushes (mostly grunge): the 'cirratus' series, the 'nocturna' series

I've technically mastered every tool there is in Photoshop 7.Congratulations, you're the first one who achieved this!
Alright, cool. Thanks guys! Those aren't technically my "kind" of brushes, but they're cool and will come in handy sometime. My guess is that you didn't take any time to look at the other Nagel Series brushes. There are brushes for fur, clouds, noise, hair, crayon, chalk, aged, conte, crayon, rags, etc. There is something for everyone.
So I'm very confused here... If you're not interested in these kind of brushes and then what kind of brushed are you really interested in? Stamp brushes, meaning that you have to click once so that you an object? Explain to use what kind of brushes you are really looking for.
These are my kind of brushes I use and many of them are Nagel Series and I use them to texture skin, walls, metal, to create dirt, paint skies, hair, etc. Isn't that the whole purpose of brushes, to be able to paint as many textures or objects as possible?

Well, what I was really looking for are the "Blood Brushes." I once saw this tutorial with them making something and then using a "Blood style" brush to make whatever they made, bloody. lol. Here's what I am talking about in specific, which think looks cool:

Well, what I was really looking for are the "Blood Brushes."You should have said so instead of writing "Where can I get some really cool-looking brushes that I can download for Photoshop 7?". Now several people might have wasted their time.
Why do you need specific blood brushes btw? Serious, blood can easily created without any specific brushes that create blood.

Dont forget the fact that this dude has photoshop 7.0 and not photoshop CS, so hardly any of the nagel series brushs will work anyway
Ide have to agree with elysian on this one, blood is as easy freehand as it is brushed.

Why do they say only for Photoshop CS on their site then? You think they kiddin' or just don't know what they are saying?

why don't you try installing them ? I don't have CS myself but I don't see what they could have upgraded from v7 regarding brushes & brushes libraries..

if you want brushes....check out deviantArt.com and look under their photoshop brush collection....it will blow your mind. I spent 2 entire days going through everything and saving it all to a CD. Well worth the time.

Most of the brushes at Deviantart are stamp brushes; people crop an image and make a brush out of it. Big deal, even my daughter can do that. Last time I thought I downloaded hair brushes, turned out these were stamp brushes to put a complete hair style on a head with one mouse click... duh!
Sorry, but I like to paint and if I wanted to copy/paste then I would have bought Poser.
No, people who are serious with textures and painting look for professional brushes for hair, skin, noise, clouds, etc.
Trust me; it's better to have 50 really good brushes in Photoshop, instead of 10,000 average brushes on a CD.
Just my $0,02 of course.

I checked out the brushes, too...and I don't have PS CS either. So, I did a search for PS brushes on the site and then a bit of reading and found out that the brushes are available for PS 7 up to series 14. Starting with series 15 and up, they are only for PS CS.
Think I'll be testing out some brushes this weekend. ;)

Thanks tatiana, I think this is going to help people a lot!
That means that Series 11 is compatible with PS7, which is a good thing beause these cloud and vapour trail are really good (trust me; I hate inferior products!).
