Procedure:

I go to Render -> Environment. In the Environment dialog I click the Environment Map button with says "None" in the Background group. In the Material/Map Browser dialog I click Mtl Library from the option bar on the upper left side. Then I click the button that says Open in the File group on the bottom left.

Problem:

I go to a folder where I have a .jpg for the background. My problem is the only extensions it can browse are .max and .mat. How do I get a .jpg to be the background? Can someone please help me here. Thanks.

open the material editor, choose any material, then click on any slot (diffus, specular, glossiness, etc.) and choose bitmap. Choose your bitmap. Go back in the material history, drag and drop the bitmap to the environment slot. Tadaaaaaaa !

oh yes, RTFM, thx. :hmm:

Click on that "enviroment map" button -> choose "new" on the left -> choose "bitmap" from the list -> get your bitmap! Tadaaaaa! :bounce:

It's basicly the same as Joebount said... except leaving the material editor alone. If you'd want to edit it in the material editor - just drag the map from the button ("enviroment map") to a slot in the material editor and choose "instance" as for the type of copy.

You can also drag the jpg from explorer into max and drop it into one of your viewports.

Sort of handy?

If you want to edit it yo will still have to go to the Material editor though.

Oh well.
First, I don't drink beer. :hmm:
And the eNLArge is rather complex and tricky, so you should be prepared to wait. (After watching the CS4 demo, I both got some new ideas and at the same time almost lost my passion to work on it)...

I am currently hammering on TMG and BackFromFive. BFF already does an amazing job moving basic model data around and I will do my best to make it support bones and skin transfer between max versions soon. Then comes animation support...

Nice!! Got it the Bitmap up and running. Thanks for the help guys. Sorry for the 'newbie' questions, for I am attempting to learn 3ds max 4.2

P.S. In case you were wondering I am 14 years old. :buttrock:

@Bobo, Thank you for all the effort you put in with all these scripts you write! They rock! :)

P.S. I heard you are after information about work your scripts are being used in. We are currently using Maxtrix in part of a game sequence in a feature film here in Wellington - the film is still 6 - 12 months away from completion, but when we have some shots together I'll drop you a line...

Bobo for u :

... one thing that is for shure (imo) is that Character studio will never give the same freedome and perfect movement/rigging as you can do with bones'n'skinmod (in max 5).
In max 5 you have total freedome to create 100 leged animals, with everything releated in one Character Assemble (just to mention a few... it saves in one file: all kind of links, complete riggin, skinning setups, all manipulators etc. etc.) they simply made the best tool for production line here.... and it is here (personaly) I get most >Controle< of all my deformations !!!!

(Also to mention i used character studio in the start when i did rigs, but now I've turned to skin/bone cause it simply give more controle of deformation etc. etc.)

Also to make miself clear: I do also like CS alot, cause it have some great features like crowd, pivotchanging and all that kind of stuff... So Character studio is good for crowd. But not for single characters IMO.

 When I saw your eNLARGE, I just where so happy and I've allmost checked your site every day for a period.... I also know that there is a lot of people waiting for the eNLARGE, and you have allready put so mutch work in it, so why not complete it?

Hope all you other guys share my oppinions !

wow... I'ts 10 oclock at the morning here... hehe... think i better get some sleep !!!

Hope I could motivate you a lillte Super Bobo :wavey:

And once again... thanks for all your super scripts... I use them very often !!!!
